Mother got a letter from the church she used to attend in Indiana, well actually the bishop from that area. THe pastor that used to counsel her and help lead the church has resigned because he had an affair with a congregation member.  He is married, no news as to if the wife is still around.

This is a well known pastor folks. Scary huh? Shocking, yes. Especially when it hits your home church. I am surprised it wasn't on CNN. I had left this church many years ago due to many things I did not like about the church, mother continued even till about a year ago she would travel down to Indiana to counsel with this pastor.

Just thought you should know.

jode

Jode, it's happening all over the world and it is a crying shame! I feel real sorry for the the devout older people as they are strong believers or should we say they were strong believers.   now & then39415.2956944444Goes to show you no matter who you are or what you do, we're all human and make mistakes.  Too bad that others who were not involved in these actions will be having a very hard time.I remember years ago the pastor of our church came to my house to counsel my mom because she had left my abusive, alcoholic father.  He made her feel bad because she was divorcing him and said she should not break up the home.  Lo and behold, a couple of years later this same pastor was kicked out of our church for fooling around with high school girls.  His wife divorced him. The hipocrasy angers me to this day.  It's in all religions, but unfortunately we hear mostly about the problems within our churches.

Not very much shocks me anymore....definately not this.

I'm sure your Mother is disappointed in a man she no doubt respected greatly. That's the saddest part.

It is quite sad. THis is the same church that when I divorced said that it was ok to get a divorce....excuse me, I do not remember them being a part of the decision making process. That really got me and was just the tip of the iceburg as to what followed.

People do make mistakes, but in that people also make choices for whatever reasoning they did to get to that decision. IT makes you more cautious of those men and women of "the cloth".

I pray, I believe in God, I believe there is a higher power and the proof of that is in the birth of a child and the miracles I see each day. I believe that there are spirits among us an dangels that help guide us.

When such behavior is from a man of God who preaches and spreads the word of the Bible and the morals and values of our society each week and each day, and conveys this message to his fellow man of which many of of these people are seeking guidance, it totally shatteres the respect and integrity one feels towards that individual.

Of course, in all honesty..I had to ask who it was that brought this man to his knees with this behavior so vehemently regarded as a sin through this church.

Buuuuuut..... mother is out of the "gossip loop" at this church so she may never know.

Shocking? Maybe. But in the day of Presidents cheating on the there wives as well as molesting woman in the White House and Preachers of many faiths commiting adultry not really

That's why it's important to put your faith in God as opposed to man.  People are just people and will fail you just as we at some point fail those around us.  But God doesn't change, He stays the same.  And thougt things don't always go as we'd like or hope for, God is faithful.  Always.

During the priest molestation situation, the last one who was charged and exiled was from our church. He baptized my sister and use to eat dinner at my best friends house once a month. We stopped going to that church after that, my mom started going somewhere else after having lots of talks with the sisters. The whole thing is a scary situation, and I’m sorry that your mother is going threw this, I know my mom was devastated and her faith was rattled dramatically. One thing we kept in mind is it doesn’t matter where you pray, there is someone listening. I’ll keep your family and church in my prayers.
