I just started taking this along with Enbrel.  I cannot take MTX any longer due to liver probs.  Imuran is supposed to not be as hard on your liver.

Anyway, my question is do those of you who take this drug get really exhausted and sick feeling?  I have only taken it for 2 days and am sooo tired and nauseous.  Does this feeling go away after a while?

Thanks for any help you can give.

edited cause I can't type today

Hi Crispy,

I cannot tell ya if it was the Imuran that made me sick for a couple weeks after taking it, I thought I was going thru pain med withdrawl.

But according to my leaflet that came with the med said that side effects do not start until upto 2 weeks after taking the first dose.

Which for me I felt sick to my stomach, could not eat, nauseous, tired and just felt jittery or anxious for couple of days then it went away.

I hope the Imuran helps you like it has been helping me. It has GREATLY deminished my swelling and I am very greatful for this med.

I have not felt sick nor anything else since those couple of days about 2 weeks after starting it.

Good Luck with Imuran

I appreciate your input.

I would type it word for word, but I think the leaflet got throwed out.

Hey Crispy.  I haven't taken Imuran, I just wanted to say that I hope it works well for you and that the side effects (if that's what you're experiencing) don't last too long.

My mom takes Imuran and she takes her whole dose at night right before bed - she gets very ill taking it during the day - maybe talk to your doctor about that, it could help you too? She has not had problems with it since.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. Imuran is the only thing that has helped my mom other than huge doses (like 70mg) of pred. Now she is off that too :)

I took it for a few weeks over a year ago and it made me very ill, or so I thought. I was also on a slew of other drugs at the time.  I just started it again for sarcoidosis and I have been on it just over 2 weeks and so far, I seem to be tolerating it pretty well.  What dose are you on, maybe if you started on a lower dose and work up it might make the side effects less?

Glad you are tolerating it well, Michele! Hope it helps ya out. You need something to make ya better.

I was started out taking 2 50mg pills daily, maximum dose so RD said.

But last few weeks I have been taking 1 50mg tab daily so I did not run out before the month was out. And it seems to be doing pretty good with one tab.

I take mine at night with all my other meds. But when I was taking it 2 times a day, I was taking my 1st dose during the day like around noon time and then I took the other one around midnight or later.

I do not feel any side effects from it. Unless me being cold all the time is one of the side effects, but I just think my being cold is because it is COLD and my skin is getting thinner from the pred. I can see veins better now EWW!!

I haven't had any problems with Imuran.  I started on 1 tablet in the morning, then went to 2 tablets (1 morning, 1 bedtime) and now I take 3 tablets (2 morning, 1 bedtime).  I'm always tired, so that hasn't changed, but I didn't get any nausea.

I hope whatever it is goes away and you get some benefit from the med!

I had some naseau at first with the imuran but it went away after a couple weeks. I haven't noticed it makes me tired, but I am tired a lot anyway. I take 50 mg 3 x a day with meals. I wonder if splitting up the doses would help you? Hang in there, it might take a couple weeks for you to adjust to it. It does take a long time to work for some people. 3 months for me but it has really helped me. I hope it helps you too.

Laker

Thanks so much for all your replies.  I really like hearing real life experiences vs. the drug inserts.  I read all I can about the meds, but I still want to know how others experience it, so I really appreciate you all responding.

Sarah, thanks for the idea about taking it at night.  I am so glad its helping your Mom.

Michele, I am only on 50mgs to start.  When  I go in next month they will up it to 100mgs if I have had no allergic reactions.

Linccn, Suzanne and Laker, thanks for your support.  I have been on so many drugs, I am really hoping this combo helps.
