It is simple.  I get chest pain.  Scares the hell out of me but still paying on last ambulance.  Sooooooo - all I hope to hear is you have acid reflux, heart burn  etc. etc. that I never had before RA and I am just paranoid

PS  This is how I am celebrating my birthday LOL.  No that is not all - my sweet daughter and my aid are making me breakfast of my choice while I sit here and play on computer.  Later - they are going to walk the dogs and I get to watch.  It is a gorgeous day Roxi, I agree.  Chest pain is scary, so let's hope it is something simple that can be treated with over the counter meds.  Please keep us posted and I am sending healing thoughts and prayers. Happy Birthday!

So sorry to hear that your having chest pains. I hope that it's just stress and nothing more serious. Will keep you in my prayers and sending you a ton of positive thoughts.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROXY.  What are you having for breakfast??  Hope your chest pain turns out to be nothing serious. Could be costochondritis - pain in the ribs/sternum joints.  Hurts like hell; sends many people (me included) to the ER thinking they're having a heart attack.

Or RA in the ribcage.
JasmineRain39415.6222569444rox, lately I've noticed heart palpitations, I mean, it's like my heart is rapidly beating, out of my chest. I end up counting the "thuds". At last count it was 14 in a row. No pain. Don't know. Next RD appt is in Jan. Please post what you learn,

Happy Birthday!

I get terrible chest pains from inflammation in the rib cage. It feels very much like a heart attack but my dr says it is inflammation. They go away within a few minutes. I was told that if the episode persists more than 5 minutes to go to the ER. Your dr should be able to figure out what the trouble is, I'd schedule an appt.

Laker

Gosh, that must be scary. I have never experienced it myself. Hope it is something easily solved and not serious.

Happy birthday Roxy

Happy b-day to Roxy & Miles!! I hope it was a great one!

Roxy, I hope you feel better soon and get this figured out.

take care

Roxy, a belated happy birthday to you!

Hope you get your chest pains resolved, early on in my disease process I had chest pains which thankfully resolved with treatment.

Lettuce know the outcome.

Ron

Happy Birthday Roxy and Miles2Go!

Hope you had a Happy BDay

Just wanted to bring this forward so you could see all the people that wish you well

Happy Birthday Miles 2 Go.  I am getting so senile I lost this thread LOL  I went to cardiologist and they had to try three times to get a reading on the EKG.  That was scary.  Monday I go back for six hours YUK to hook me up to machines to get a baseline relaxation test then the next day - no food or drink - they put an IV in me for four hours to speed up my heart and do a reading.  Obviously - if you cannot walk - you cannot do a treadmill test.  Anyway - Monday does not scare me but Tuesday does.  If I was told I had to have heart surgery and my chest opened up -I don't know if I could do it.  It seems like my body's ability to heal or take stress is very very low these days and I don't know if I would ever get off that table.  But of course - drama queen here - already having my chest opened up and my bloody guts all over the floor

WOW WOW  I just went back and read all my happy birthday wishes.  There are still wonderful people on this board.  My computer has been out of order most the time and  I have not come back to this thread.  I wish I would have on my B-Day.  You guys are the best.  If I knew how to go back and list every one of you I would - But every time I do that I lose my post

I lose everything these days LOL  I have gotten so bad that like a child - my aid keeps my money, meds, any thing of value.  I lose everything any more.  Did I tell you my brother is buying half my house so I don't lose my house.    I was really fearing being put in a home

Dont borrow trouble.. easy for me to say, but when I first got cardiomyopathy they were talking heart transplant first thing off the bat.. I think often cardio docs  tend to  think big, then scale back..

oh  yeah I get the extra beats, especially if I take pred soooooo unless I absolutely possitively MUST  I dont take pred. Make sure also if you have pain they look for  small vessel coronary artery spasms.. it is a syndrome that women often get and  causes pain, but its hard to track down..

kathy_in_wlsv39417.5831018519Thanks Kathy for the info.  RA has made me fearful of other conditions from the RA.  I am sure my fibro is from the RA.  You know what I mean?I'm going to venture a little support here and see how things go. Roxy, I've had 2 heart attacks. My first was when I was 41 and the second was when I was 47. I'm now 51 and am a little overweight but not obeses. I don't think my heart problems stem for RA but I do believe the RA has made it difficult to get control over it. I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure because my heart is enlarged and working too hard.

When I started taking the RA med's, getting my heart rate and my blood pressure and water off my body was very difficult.   I had to quit taking my RA med's a couple of years ago for reason's I won't go into till it's safe to post such a thing on these boards, but I will tell you that once I got off them, I felt so much better. I went from taking 6 heart pills daily to taking 2 and at that point, I began to get my life back.

Last week I had an episode that sent me to the Dr. and I'm now back where I started. I've been really stressed lately so I'm thinking that's why because I still don't take the RA med's other than anti-inflammatories. But, I had almost 3 wonderful years of having energy and feeling 100 times better.

When your heart races or skips, it tires you out just as much as if you'd run around the block a few times. If a lot of you are having this experience, please discuss this with your PCP. Not your RD. He only treats arthritis and although he's supposed to watch out for all things, they really only care about your joints. Don't let this go. When your heart races it enlarges. It's working way too hard. There is medicine's to control this and it's important to take them. I, unfortunately, learned this the hard way!   Last week my BP jumped to 189/114 and my heart rate was 160. That's high, but believe me, I've had it a lot higher. Once it gets to that point, you are at risk of heart attack because the blood is pumping too fast and too hard and it stresses the heart and worse yet, you could have a debilitating stroke. I'd rather die than have that happen.

I think your Dr. is just being careful in running these test. If the EKG didn't pick up your reading it's not because there was something wrong with you, it's because either the machine wasn't set right or the tech who did the test made a mistake. So, don't panic over that. The stress test isn't that bad at all. I'd much rather have it the way you are than to get on that tread mill. It's a lot easier and much more comfortable. Whatever your problem is, it's probably very treatable.

I do hope that all of you who complain of palpitations and haven't had this checked realize that this is very serious and can lead to further, life threatening problems.

Hope this helps.

Love and God Bless,
Vicki

Roxy, let us know the outcome of your tests, ok? That can really be scary. But just keep in mind that if they find something, there's a good chance that it can be controlled with meds.

Vicki, I think your post is an important one, especially so anyone who has not had palpitations checked  will do so. I had constant, irregular heartbeat about 16 years ago. It about drove me insane! It didn't hurt, but my heart beat like an old percolator. It didn't race, just didn't have any regular rythum (sp?). It took at least a year for a doctor to catch it  on an EKG. I just happened to be beating REALLY strangely one day when I was seeing the doc.

After all these years, I still take just 2 propranolol (Inderal) tablets a day, and it keeps it under control almost all the time. Occasionally, out of the blue, it will wig out for a day or so, but since I know what it is, I don't panick like I used to. I do have regular EKG's, and about a year ago they did another echocardiogram. Everything was fine.

I honestly don't think mine had anything to do with RA. I know there are heart problems that can be attributed to RA, but not every problem that we have is necessarily caused by it.

I do agree with Vicki, though. You can't afford to just let it go,. At least get it checked. It might be something quite benign, like me. Or a serious problem like Vicki. Either way, you need to know.

Good luck, Roxy! Please keep us posted.

Happy Birthday.

Hi Roxy - nice to see you back and happy birthday to you and Miles2.
I have had a few costochondritis attacks, one ended up with me having an ambulance ride to hospital but everything was clear. Have had them since and have been told to ring for an ambulance if they last longer than 20 mins but have read costo attacks can last longer. Have also read that drinking a glass of water while having an attack can help - seems weird but I have tried it twice and it completely stops the attack.A costo attack can come on if you lift something slightly heavy, generally something that most people can deal with but for us with RA something like groceries or a lifting a pile of books can bring it on. I try to be more careful about what I lift now.
Hope you have a great birthday.
Kind regards,
Cassie
