Cold/Sinus Infection??? | Arthritis Information

I think I have a cold, but it might be a sinus infection.  I don't have a fever and drainage is clear.  Tomorrow is my MTX day.  If I start an antibiotic tomorrow, will I be able to take the MTX?  I hate to miss it since I've had a rough week of pain and swelling since last Friday.

Also, does anybody flare before they get sick?  I haven't been sick since I was diagnosed so I don't know how this works.  Any advice is appreciated.

As far as the MTX goes, it seems about 50/50. Some docs say take it anyway, other say no. So I would call your doc and ask. Better safe than sorry.

I have never stopped my MTX because of a sinus infection and it does sound like one.

Yes, it is possible to flare before you get sick. It is also possible to flare because of a sinus infection. I have experienced that too.

Probably best to consult your doctor about both the sinus infection and the MTX. You could possibly be flaring because of the infection coming on so both need to be looked at I would think.

Sinus infections and RA flares can certainly go together.
I had to stop (RD's orders) when I had my recent sinus infection. Missed 4 weeks worth...paying for it now even though I've been back on it since last Friday. But RD said to up my dose by one pill for 2wks, then up another pill for 2wks. my rd said no mtx if i have anykind of infection that i would need antibiotics for and to call if i think i might have a cold. i think it would be best to call and ask because it seems that different drs have different thoughts, please let me know what yours says. Better call your doctor since they seem to have differing opinions.  Mine said to stop MTX only for sinus infections or any other serious infection.

Wow, I had no idea that sinus infections (or any other type of infection) was a problem with MTX.  I think I've been fighting a minor one for the last week and just haven't bothered seeking treatment.  Will do so now.

Thanks for asking about this, graciesmom!  Every question on AI can help someone.
