I was diagnosed with mild lupus on November 19th and was started on Plaquenil 400mg. Since then I have lost 5.5 lbs without any effort, and I am very thirsty. So, yesterday I checked my blood sugar (to prove to myself I was worrying about nothing)--it was 168 before I had lunch. So, I did one again this morning (fasting) and it was 139--on some sites it shows that is borderline, on others it says anything over 120 is diabetes
Anyone else had similar problems while on Plaquenil?
Yikes! I'll be sure to check mine tonight and tomorrow morning and report back. Neither of us has diabetes, but the husband's fasting glucose has been creeping up over the past year or so, so I test him now and again just to keep an eye on it.I've been taking Plaquenil since 2004 and haven't had any problems. Plaquenil also may reduce the risk for diabetes.

It should be under 140 for a glucose tolerance test (drinking a supersweet glucose drink then testing 1 hr and 2 hrs later).
