newbie looking for help | Arthritis Information

My 72 year old mother has recently been diagnosed with PMR. She has numerous medical problems including RP and she is almost totally blind. Her doc put her on pred which helped her symptoms but her eye sight got so bad she had to stop taking the pred. The doc has her now on nsaids and it doesn’t appear to be doing much. Does anyone have any suggestions about what she could try or discuss with her doc another treatment that might help her? What about heat or cold paks?? Creams or lotions? Alternative meds or natural supplements? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

Mark, Sorry to hear about your Mom's problems. Have you seen an opthamologist?  He might have a means to control the eyesight problem, particularly if it's related to pressure, and thus allow use of prednisone.

One of the recent posts had the husband on extra-strength Tylenol because of diabetes so that might be something to talk to the Doc about.  Plaquinol might be of use, too, although it seems to be used more for RA.

I'm sure some of the ladies on the forum will have better suggestions, probably from first-hand experience.  The forum is a bit slow on some days, so check in a couple of times a day.

Traumeel by HEEL:   Great homepathic antiflammatory, no side affects...not even tummy.

Drink vinegar:   But only the kind you buy at the health food store that has the MOTHER.   Mix with a little honey, tablespoon of vinegar.....drink.     Amazing how it really does alkaline the body and helps pain and stiffness.

DUSA OIL - (Jacob's Lab) it's DMSO and so worth the money.   Helps the pain, stiffness, and nerve pain.   It's an oil.......the best ON SKIN STUFF I've ever used.

MSM with Glucosamine:   Helps everything..........but may upset tummy.

PEROXIDE BATH SOAKS:     2 bottles of peroxide, 1 box of epsom salt.....the help is temporary........but sometimes that's what you need.    Pulls out toxins, puts in magnesium.

CALCIUM/MALIC ACID/MAGNESIUM...........a MUST

FISH OIL :   Great for inflammation and immune system.

HOPE THIS HELPS SOME.    I've had fibromyalgia, lupus, CFS and now PR for about 30 years and these are some of the best remedies I have found.

Might want to try some of them.

BLESSINGS GALORE, NAN59

Some good ideas there Nan, I hope you are doing OK at the moment. Mark, I really hope you can find something to give your mother some relief. Keep looking and trying. I know that warm baths and massage will help, if only temporarily, but any relief is worth having. Please give your mother our best wishes.

Thanks all for your input. I will run this by her and hopefully she can find some relief. I suffer from Hypothyroidism and see a naturalpathic doctor who has turned my life around. So I am a firm believer in natural treatment.

Thanks again

Hi  I'm new at all this.  I was diagnosed a month ago with PMR.  Does anyone out there have a sore throat with this?    Also off and on my vision is a little blurry.  Any help would be appreciated.  I am on prednazone.  Thanks Bellairedottie bellairedottie39428.609525463Hi Belleairedottie, and welcome (if that's the right word!)

Never heard of anyone with a sore throat, but plenty with vision a bit blurry.
If you go back through some of the previous posts you'll probably find some
threads about vision. Are you on predisolone? as I think that can affect
vision.

This is a nasty little thing - I've had it 12 months, but you'll find this forum a
great help and support.

MargaretHi there and welcome. Does your doctor know about your blurry vision episodes?
