meditative walking to reduce stress | Arthritis Information

There's certainly no doubt that RA causes stress...and stress worsens the RA symptoms.  So how do you stop this vicious cycle?  I'm sure there's lots of good ideas out there.  Here's one of my favorites.  I practice what I call meditative walking.  It's a combination of walking and allowing yourself to experience life as it is in the current moment.  Feel a cool breeze on your face, or the warmth of the sun on your back; hear the singing of birds or the laughter of children in the park; see the brilliant white of clouds against a deep blue sky or the color of leaves in the fall; touch the rough bark on a tree.  Don't think...just experience life as it is now and feel the stress flowing out of your body.  As you probably know by now I like to take pictures with my camera phone while walking.  Here's a few from this afternoon's walk.  Here in California we're a bit behind the rest of the country so it's still fall and the trees are quite beautiful.

Alan

My gosh how beautiful! Thanks for the beautiful pictures!

Alan, these are beautiful!! Thank you for sharing. It's so nice to see some color. Our trees have already lost their leaves so it's sorta dull out right now.  I do enjoy sitting on our porch and watching the kids play in the courtyard and the sky as it changes colors when the sun sets. We've also got quite a few geese gangs flying over nowadays. I think they may be lost though. I swear I see the same geese fly one direction and then the other.

I hope you have a superfantastic and comfortable evening!

Mel, our geese are ALWAYS going in the wrong direction!  They're supposed to be headed south, but nope.  And do they listen when you tell them they're going the wrong way??  Nope.  They just keep on going.

Alan, thanks for the pics, they're really nice

OK...so this is a pretty random observation...time for some yoga!

Alan

PS: I can relate to the geese.  I often feel that I'm going in the wrong direction...or may it's the rest of the world that's confused!

I heard geese overhead today, so at least some of them have made it to central Texas!

Our trees don't always turn pretty colors, but this year they are pretty nice.  We have to get the right weather conditions for that to happen (just what I don't know).

The sumac is bright red, the oaks are orangey-brown and the leaves on the ash trees look like copper pennies.  I took a walk today and it really does make me feel better.  Maybe its just forgetting about the daily aches and pains that helps and the pretty scenery.  Thanks for the lovely picturs, Alan.

Alan, your pictures are like your poetry...Awesome!  Thank You! You have hit the nail on the head Allan and it is a wonderful experience to just "BE"

I have found that when I finally get my back side out and start taking pictures I become a different person, more relaxed, more at peice with myself and the world in general.

A walk along the beach can be very meditative with the rhythmical sounds of the breaking waves....

Hope you don't mind Allan. If so will take it down

Ooh! Nice, Stephen! Sometimes I wish we lived closer to the ocean because there is something about the sound of crashing waves that's so calming and soothing. I'll have to settle for one of those indoor water thingys from Wally World for the time being. Hehe!

I do have a picture I'd like to share if you guys don't mind.

I'd definitely enjoy something like this in my backyard!

Hope you are all having a superfantastic evening and are comfy!

(I should take pictures of those silly geese next time I see them! My hubby says all they'd have to do was follow I-25... duh! I told him I'd let them know.

Of course I don't mind...I love the ocean.  There's a great restaurant on the wharf in Capitola about a 40 min drive from here...wonderful omelettes...sitting outside listening to the waves...truly heaven on earth.

Cool...my wife and I lived for 5 years in Colorado, right after we were married.  I was a graduate student at the university in Boulder.  We used to drive up Boulder canyon with a picnic lunch and sit by the creek on a blanket...good times!  Thanks for the jogged memories.

Alan

Love the pictures everyone.  Seeing something so beautiful does help with stress, even if it just a picture!

Thanks,
Mary B

You know, before moving here, lay-overs at DIA were my only experience with CO.

Mem'ries,
Light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? Could we?
Mem'ries, may be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember...
The way we were...
The way we were...
