Mouth sores | Arthritis Information

What a beautiful subject title, eh?

I had a very bad sore throat and had to go to the doctor Saturday.  In the back I had what looked like white spots or a white lesion, but not how strep throat typically looks.  Strep test was negative, so she gave me an antibiotic, which I can tell is already working.

I have never seen anything like that before, and was wondering if anyone else here has been afflicted by anything similar.. if it's common with RA.  My rheumatologist suspected lupus in my case because of one of my blood tests, and told me to be on the lookout for mouth sores (i.e., a candida like infection) which is definitely what it looked like.  He is still trying to sort out if what I have is RA or lupus, but I read sores like this can be common with both/either.

Any personal experience with this?  I have an appointment with the rheumy on Wednesday so would like to know as much as possible before then.  Thank you!

Oh how horrible for you.  I am so glad you can see an improvement already.  Even just a cinker (sp?) sore hurts bad enough.  I can't imagine more.  I hope it continues to improve for you and you get your answer soon, so you can start the right meds for you.

I had a terrible time with candida "thrush" while I was taking MTX.  It cleared up shortly after I stopped taking MTX and hasn't returned.

Goodness, Ginger! I'm sorry to hear you've had one heck of a sore throat, but I'm glad the antibiotic is working quickly for you.

I haven't noticed any white spots at the back of my throat, but from time to time I have red dots back there. When baby boy was ill last week I showed them to his pediatrician, but she didn't think it was anything to be concerned about.

Hope you have a superfantastic evening and your throat feels 100% better in the morning!

MrsAlexander39418.8211111111I had/have white spots on my tonsils/throat/tongue all my life.  Contracted scarlet fever when I was 3 - that's a very bad strep.  This is probably where I contracted RA.

I get them alot when I get a sore throat and so do my kids. I have had times where the kids and I have tested negative with spots and times where the strept test was positive.

Try gargling with warm salt water. Helps the sores and the pain in throat. Tastes awful but it works.

Hope you get better soon.

Try taking some Folic Acid.....[QUOTE=CinDee]

I agree with CinDee.  I just want to add that I have found gargling with sea salt/water instead of table salt/water is a little easier.

Hope you feel better soon.
