Weight Gain or Loss? | Arthritis Information

Share

I've lost about 15 lbs in the last few months. I'm not trying and I'm not complaining. Pred is supposed to cause weight gain, I'm taking 5mg every other day, not very much. I suspect that the vicodin may be causing this. I am eating the same foods and amounts as I always have.

Anyone else had unexpected weight loss or gain?

Mike
NO! ....uggghhh I can't lose weight even being down to 5mgs of prednisone. I don't know if the vicodin would cause you to lose weight?? If it does, I'm going to my nightstand for the stash bottle.

DF,

I've lost about 12 lbs the past several mths also... like you i've not really been trying.  Been on pred also and everyone says it makes you gain... The only thing is I've been on Lasix which eliminates fluid and Prednisone retains sodium in you body which causes you to retain fluid.  (Also the retention of sodium will affect you blood pressure).

Thats all I can come up with....

Feel Better,

Kat

I should be so lucky to lose weight.  Even when it's a possible side effect, it isn't the one I get but I have no problem with gaining weight, NOOOOO!Let's just say that I am not sure I will EVER loose weight.  I would like to be at least 20 lbs lighter, but that's a different story.

Went from 102 to 120 in 3 months when starting pred.  Well, part of it could be less pain gave me appetite back, as I was barely eating prior to meds.  And Joonies food posts don't help either!!!

I am losing a lil' bit of weight was 155lb now I am down to 148lbs. All I am on is pred, and sometimes ibu.

And I am still oinking out of JUNK FOOD! More JUNK FOOD then good foods!

This last week I have had "irritable bowel" and the closet anorexic in me has loved the part that I have lost a few pounds.  This is at the same time as shoving candy in my mouth all afternoon but I don't eat meals.  Just a small sandwich.  Just not hungry from mtx this week. I would hate to see my blood sugar.   I have read that weight loss is a sign of ra.  When I am not feeling well, I don't eat.

Theres my two bits.  hmmmmmmmmm  I think I will go have some good and plentys

Good luck,
Sheila

Mike I always lose a good bit of weight when I'm "sick". I lose my appetite all together and barely eat at all. That's one sure sign for my doctor that I'm not under control.

Gain it back pretty quick when I am though
Let's just say that I am not sure I will EVER loose weight.  I would like to be at least 20 lbs lighter, but that's a different story.
Same here. I thought going down to 5mgs from 20mgs I would at least lose a few pounds...

Awww...poor murphette!!

Why did you not share those 3 b-day cakes with us? We all could have gained more weight together...SheilaCake and donuts are my weakness...one piece of cake left, come and get it

Oww oowww I love to buy the "pint" of cream cheese frosting  and just eat it by its self...lol. Next on my junk food list Cream cheese frosting!!

WooHoo!!

Well,  Mike you know all of woman out there hate you! Not really just teasing. I maintain to health weight for my height and frame. But, when i do not feel well i do loss weight do to the loss of appetite. You should probably let your doctor know and thinking about 5mg of pred. really should not put weight on you. You may think you are feeling good but, it may be your are just feeling better? Good Luck! keep me posted.GinaGina, if it make the ladies any happier, if I lost another 20 lbs, I wouldn't mind. Getting to the 40+ age, well... I am feeling better today, thanks (I think) to Provigil. Now, I need another dinner...

Later,

Mike

When this massive flare started in Feb 2004, I was about 196. After the pred I was up to 212. I am very short and I can NOT handle that much weight.

When I stopped the pred the weight just started coming off, and I am now down to 176, and I am not even trying.  I have been heavy since age 15 and right now I weigh less than any time since 1978..

I would LOVE it if a symptom of my RA was to lose weight.LOL

I lost 12 lbs in about a month when I first got the disease and never gained it back.  I was on 5 mg of pred. but that never made me gain either.  Low doses don't I don't think.
