The local Fox News station did an undercover hidden camera investigation at the local 4 and 5 star hotels that used real glass and crystal for drinking utensils instead of the cheap wrapped plastic cups. All of them did not wash the glasses and quite a few used the used towels to wipe the glasses out. At the 5 star hotel, the maid cleaned the toilet using her rubber gloves, picked up the glasses with the same rubber glasses, rinsed them out in the bathroom sink, and wiped them with a used towel, Bulaaaaah.

I've seen other news programs like this and I'll tell you, I'm paranoid about staying in a hotel whether it's a 5 star or a no star I mean, I won't even sit on the bedspread or walk barefoot on the carpet. My husband thinks I'm ridiculous when I walk around spraying all the surfaces with lysol. Yuck!I have to tell this because it is so funny. A member PMed me and said that when she read my topic heading, "Read this with a bag", she went and got her mother-in-law. Now that's funny, sorry you can't post it yourself, but thanks for that laugh. Hope you don't mind that I shared it.

That is why when we go anywhere, I do take disposable cups and lysol etc. I am sorry but my immune system is bad enough.definately my own pillows, only I have drooled on them.
Yep I take my own pillows too, we even take extra towels because of the pool at the hotel. memeI thought my eyes were going to pop out of my head! We were all grossed out by it, and the maids were told to stop IMMEDIATELY. All this time, we'd had dish soap for them to use, but apparently (so they say) they didn't know what it was for. So far, since that inspection, they haven't been allowed to use windex at all. We've started buying cleaners that are non-toxic, as a just in case sort of deal.
Not as an excuse, but an explination - our HK department uses contract foreign workers. Only a handful of them speak english and communication is always an issue. Not to mention that they rotate out so much, when you do get a good crew in, you never get to keep them! NOT my way of doing things, that's for sure.
OMG Katie, are you kidding? HOw do you NOT know what dish soap is for....Isnt it used for the same thing no matter what country you are from...I swear some people need to just get popped in the head maybe it'll help w/ the common sense.It is, but when it comes in bulk, it's a weird box/bag thing with LOTS of english writing on it (remember they dont speak english) and the supervisors (also foreign!) had not handed out the mini bottles for them to fill up. Like I said, poor communication. It really is our biggest killer here. If we could knock that out, this hotel would get 100%'s CONSTANTLY. It's very frustrating. The company that owns us, sees the cutback in payroll and not the dent in our scores. It's all about the money, ya know?
