Here's a pretty good article comparing the usefulness and health benefits of different cooking oils:

This is interesting -

"Any type of oil or fat will help the body absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K), and make sex hormones. But moderating intake of fat in general, and some types in particular, is important for health."  So, this might explain why the super healthy get sick.  Not enough fat intake - note the regulation of hormones (estrogen???)

I notice they don't mention Coconut - which has antibacterial qualities and is probably the best oil for chronic disease people.  We're in the process of switching over to it - but it's expensive.

And isn't the rapeseed the one with all the controversy?

Pip, I have no idea. I usually use olive oil but I might try to mix it up after reading this.

What't the dealio with coconut oil? I always thought coconut was super polysaturated unhealthy, but lately I keep getting clues that that just isn't so!
Archway coconut cookies are supposed to be like a miracle for people with Crohn's, IBS, etc. The People's Pharmacy has run this several times. Readers say they don't believe it could really work, but buy some anyway and have to write in to say how much they help control their symptoms. They eat one a day.

Maybe it's one of those bizarre switcheroo's that happen with metabolism.  Like that apple cider vinegar working to alkalize the body.

I've seen posts that it apparently tastes great and people keep it refrigerated and eat a teaspoonful a day.  I'm like 'yuck' but apparently the 'yuck' factor helps us.
