Kineret anyone? | Arthritis Information

Hello everyone. I'm a new member but not at all a newbie to the Arthritis thing, I've had JRA (Still's) for 20+ yrs. I've read some things about Kineret and was just curious how it worked for others with Still's. I'm currently getting Orencia infusions but have seen 0 improvement with it after 6 mos. I've tried remicade, enbrel, humira, prednisone and otherd, am currently on mtx, inodcin, plaquenil. The mtx has worked great for me for about 18 yrs so I'm rather hesitant to try Arava since it basically is meant to replace the mtx.

Thanks everyone!

Hi Erica.

My Dr has a couple of patients on Arava and MTX.

All I know about Kineret is that it is different from the other biologics - I think you have to inject it every day - so it is not so popular. My doc and I talked about trying something different since I had gone through Enbrel and Remicade (they just didn't work after a while).

No help but Welcome. It does get frustrating to have been through so many drugs over the years, but there are new ones in testing now.

Welcome to the board, Red.

Like Marian said Kinert is one that you inject everyday. It seems to be mostly given to people with diabetes, as it is a little different than the rest of the biologicals. Most of the biologicals are made from animal protiens. It seems Kineret is a man-made protein that is similar to a naturally occurring protein called interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) found in the body. (stole that from a wesbite)

It looks like it is auto-inject now. Which some people say that is nice. I would not know... a needle is a needle peircing my skin anyway you cut it

Good Luck and keep us updated

How does it work for those who are on it?

I do not know the answers to those questions, Phatgirl. I just know a little about it, because of someone that use to be a member of the board a couple of years back could ONLY take Kineret because of her diabetes.

Kineret is speical in another way... because it does not need to have a DMARD like MTX or Arava in order to get the best results, like the other biologicals. I forgot to mention that is probably why it makes it so different then the other biologicals.

Kineret® is a medicine that is prescribed by a doctor to help manage the pain and swelling symptoms associated with moderate to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It is a kind of medicine known as a biological response modifier (BRM) and is usually prescribed after treatment with one or more disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) have failed to effectively manage the signs and symptoms.
