She put me on 100mg of Minocin twice daily. I took my first dose just a few mins ago with the rest of my night time meds. And I will take the next dose around noon time tomorrow. Joonie, that's great! But don't lie down right after you take it....you have to wait at least 1/2 hour. Good luck with your AP!

Oh I took my new pain med about an hour ago, there is no laying down for about oh... 4 hours

I am sitting up now at hubby's computer came out to get something to drink and get on the internet. Well, if you have any questions just ask. It seems confusing at first but once you get the basics down it's a pretty simple protocol.

It's really important to take probiotics, though, or eat probiotic foods (live culture yoghurt, kefir, unpasteurized sauerkraut, or miso). That might be tricky on a tight budget. Homemade sauerkraut is cheap but it's a lot of work cutting and pounding the cabbage. Miso is the most economical. Just make sure you use the unpastuerised live culture miso. Or if you drink milk every day already making kefir would be cost free after you got the basic stuff. You can make Kefir with rice milk or water but you still have to grow them in milk sometimes to feed them.

Ok... that was all greek to me

Oh and Pip! was this the antiboitic you were referring to me to take because of my Tiena Vierscolor?

Haha, the antibiotics kill off good microbes in your gut as well as the bad micros, and you need to replenish them.  Probiotics are beneficial microbes that live in your gut andhelp you digest food and keep you healthy. (It's the anti and the pro of the biotic world). To replenish the killed good bacteria it's necessary to ingest them. You can buy probiotic supplements at most supplement outlets, or you can eat foods that have probiotics in them. Lately I have been interested in getting more of my supplements from food so I have been reading a lot about probiotic foods. I am your source of probiotic food information if there's anything you want to know about. I can really go on and on and on about it. Joonie, I think I'm confused. Are you taking minocycline to try long term AP or just a short course for some problem?
Ok, list off some probiotic foods. I will see if I will eat any of them Most of them are fermented. The main ones are:

Yoghurt: the live culture, plain, no sugar kind of yogurt.

Kefir: a fermented milk drink sort of like yogurt but thinner and slightly bubbly. It makes a great smoothie. You can buy it at the store or make it overnight in a jar of milk on your counter, if you have kefir grains, which are little perpetual probiotic factories. They look like popcorn:
Kefir Grains.

Unpasteurised sauerkraut: basically, cabbage pickled with a little salt. You make it by shredding cabbbage, adding some celtic sea salt, pounding it all until it gets a bit moist, then letting it sit under a weight (like a bottle of water) at room temperature for 6 weeks. I have a contraption called the Perfect Pickler which cuts that time down to 4 days. The sauerkraut is ind of crunchy, unlike the white stuff you buy in a jar. that stuff is no good for probiotic purposes.

Unpasteurised Miso: a Japanese soup seasoning that's made out of fermented soybeans and salt. You make miso by boiling water or soup base and cooling it to about 140 degrees (if the water is too hot it kills the probiotics), then pouring it over a teaspoon or so of miso, mixing and drinking. You can add other stuff to the soup, too, if you want. You can also make salad dressings, gravy, and sauces with it.  Miso is economical because you only need a bit for soup and one pound of really good miso costs about

Gimpy-a-gogo39422.0302199074Ok out of all those the Yoghurt sounds more my speed. I like cottage cheese does that have any value?I don't think so...it's the fermenting that makes the probiotics, so probiotic foods are all fermented.

It also helps to eat prebiotics, which are foods that the probiotics like to eat. If they get it they will reproduce more in your gut. Prebiotic foods are berries, oatmeal, sunchokes, most vegetables to a certain extent and a lot of other foods. I don't know very much about prebiotics yet. So yogurt with fruit or cucumber or some cereal grains is a good combination because it's both probitoic and prebiotic. Smoothies are great and they're like a treat, too.
Ok I like smoothies. Now I need a blender Joonie, it is already fermented, that's what makes the milk yogurt. So you can just eat it as is. I buy a local organic brand that is actually cheaper than most store brands, but if you can't find something like that just look for "live culture" yogurt, or "bio" yogurt. The ingedients should list milk and live bacterial cultures (sometimes it will then list the individual bacteria cultures, for example "acidolphilus"). Get organic if you can or not is also fine. Just don't buy it with anything like fruit or sugar added. You can mix stuff into it before you eat it.

Also available where I live are 1/2 gallon containers of live culture yogurt for about 7 or 8 dollars.

You can make your own yogurt in a jar at home out of a bit of starter yogurt and milk too, and keep that going for quite a while, but it's hard to get the right consistancy if you're fussy about that.

Yeah Joonie!

You really need to take a lot of probiotics.  If you don't like to eat a lot of the stuff mentioned (oddly, I've been craving sauerkraut lately and I don't even like the stuff) you should get some pills to make sure you are getting enough.  If you take enough, it will probably start cutting your pain level A LOT.  Think of it as just another med.

Hugs,

Pip

Posting this thread made me want to go and read more about prebiotics and I found this list:

I forgot about beans, the magic fruit. Hope this helps.

JOONIE - WHAT WAS THE QUESTION?  LOL

I am so glad for you, and I hope you have some results.

GoGo, you are a wealth of information.  Thank you.

So Joonie, you need to do a couple of things here, the first one is the probotics, and the second one (which I neglected to do and now have elevated liver damage blood results) is the lemon/olive oil drink.  I didn't bother because I thought I knew better because I do prototics, and liver flushes with colonics, have taken vitamins most of my adult life, blah blah.

Yogurt it is for you then - try to find plain, not flavored, just one less bad chemical in you.  There are lots of good probiotic pills OTC at your health food store.  Your new best friend should be your health food store :)  And by the way, cottage cheese with olive oil everyday is very good for everyone.

The lemon thing is a cup of water, one cut up lemon with everything (seeds and all), one tablespoon of cold-pressed oil oil, and blend, strain, and drink.  I do it straight like a real woman and don't use any of this stevia (which I use already too) like some whimps

This is essential because if the theory holds up, the germs or "mycoplasma" causing the RA die off, are carried to the liver to be processed, and you cause an overload.  Scottie, I need a little bit more power here.

And one half hour after taking the minocin, try the hot compresses soaked in epsom salts, and then try to spray on some hydrogen peroxide.

Now, after that, I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!  You sound like you know this is going to work.  I can tell from your post, and after to working with patients for 15 years, I truly believe the patient knows instinctively what is right.

Keep us informed and remember, this can be up to three years, but who cares about that part?  Love you g/f Cathy  Edit PS:  The Magic Bullet blender/juicer is the best, and buy the warranty too.

Thanks for the info JSMN & Gimpy.

Ok, I would like to state that I believe the anit-biotic is working already. Because as of last night while me & Gimpy were going back and forth my right knee was soo swelled, hurting and hurt to even just touch it. And this morning it is hlaf the swelling, only hard swell which means the swelling has gone down and that will go away soon. And I can bend and straighten my knee a whole lot more than I have in a couple of days. I have no pain going from my knee up to my hip, like I was and the muscle twitching is almost nil.

Now... before I took the antibiotic last night I felt I was heading down the saem path as I was when I had to go to the ER. I was like that for almost a month, and took 2 shots in the butt to get it to ease up and go away for a month.

It is pretty nice that the antibiotic is working for me already. She said it would help with my swelling, but I had no idea that it would do this well. Sure I was a skeptic, but now I am reformed. [QUOTE=justsaynoemore]

OOwwwww.... that is what hubby has been wanting! I think I will tell MIL that is what hubby wants for Christmas

I know I always sound like the voice of doom - but JSNM and GoGo are right.  You've been sick a long time and you have a ton of microbes to process out of your body.  As more and more of them are killed off, they have to get out someway, and that's the liver.  When your liver 'backs up' from too much to process, you'll 'flare' again - only APer's think of it as a Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction (a temporary worsening of symptoms).  You have to make it as easy as possible on your liver so the med can do it's magic.

And it will do it's magic.  You have to work thru it!

Hugs,

Congrats!

Pip

Joonie Joonie Joonie!!!! I didn't even know this was in the works!!!

Best wishes to you! I'm glad you feel like it might be working already, and that's the main thing - that you find something that makes you feel better. I know you read enough here to know it is still a rollercoaster - don't let it get you down, just hang in there. My daughter got good results right away, so even if you have been sick awhile, I believe you know your body and you will know a difference, too.

Suzanne - I did not even know it was in the works. RD just put me on it to help with my swelling. Which it is! So... I am happy. But I still have some swelling... I am sure Remicade will take care of that when I get it on the 13th.

Oh well... ya win some and ya lose some
