Strep Throat and MTX | Arthritis Information

Sorry but got another question already here:

I have Strep Throat and started antibiotics yesterday. Due to take my MTX tonight actually and have call into RD (but haven't heard back and somehow don't think I will be) but are you supposed to take it if you have infection?

I am thinking NOT, but haven't been sick (unbelieveably) since I started it almost a year ago, so not sure now. And also if you aren't supposed to take it while sick, is that for the 10 day length of the antibiotics or can you take it as soon as you just feel good again?

Thanks in advance for help

I hope you get to feeling better quickly! Have a superfantastic and comfortable evening!

Thanks Mel! That does seem right to me. Luckily I don't actually feel that bad from the Strep. My GP sais it was because of Pred masking some symptoms and reducing inflammation. A nice little positive for a change...

Have a great night yourself!

Welcome!

Sorry you have strep throat.  I would check with your Rd. My dr. said NOT to stop Mtx even if on abx.  My dr. told me to stop Enbrel, but not the Mtx.  I encourage you to sit down with your Rd next appt and discuss what he/she wants you to do when you are sick.

Good luck and get better soon!!!

My doc. said a fever would definitely signal a stop of the MTX.  I think I would stop for Strep.

Thanks again all! No wonder I can't remember since I have been lucky enough to have not been sick for so long and since the docs always seem to have different opinions - although actually now that I think about it my doc has different opinions just all by himself. Whole 'nother story though and not worth going into now....

Best,

Adele
