Good RD thread! | Arthritis Information

It seems like there are countless thread about bad doctors and awful appointments, so I thought I'd start a thread for people to chime in about the good doctors and great care that does exist.  I hope this can be some inspiration to those struggling with bad doctors and give them the courage to make a switch!

My doctor is so good to me that she actually apologises when I come in complaining of a flare or when I need my knee drained.  I can tell she truely cares about my well-being and really does do all she can to make sure my treatment is optimised.  There are times when I'll ask more questions that usual and I always ask if she has the time and she says, please don't worry about it.  Now of course there are times when I can tell she's having a stressful day or it's exceptionally busy and I don't get 100% of her focus but that is rare.

Does anyone else have some testimony regarding good doctors?

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening.

I have a great rheumy and a great GP. My GP often apologises if a treatment didn't go the way we hoped and I have suffered because of it. She is available on the phone a lot and I can contact her anytime. My RD is fabulous too. Both are very caring and listen to me. Both have a wholistic approach and believe that I should own my disease and that I am often the best judge of what I need.

My rheumatologist is prompt, kind and well informed.  Also his nurse has RA, so we have a lot in common.   I'm one of the lucky ones.

I want to say that I had a fantastic rheumy but unfortunately, he passed
away in March. He is greatly missed by many. He was kind and
compassionate. I don't have one now as there are not many where I live and
my RA is in pretty good control so have not felt compelled to look for one.
However, I have a great internist. She is around my age so understands
female issues and is right there for me anytime I need something. I feel
very fortunate to have good health care and great doctors in our small
community. I wish everyone had it as good. I really like my RD.  Kind, compassionate, knowledgable.  Can't ask for more than that.

He is the first RD and only Rd I have been to and I feel fortunate to have him.

I love my RD and his staff. He listens to me and we work together to find the best treatment plan. I've never had to wait for an appointment if I'm having a problem and my calls are always returned the same day. I can't imagine having RA and not having a compassionate, understanding RD. I like my RD and she has dedicated her life to helping people like me. She
always keeps up with current research developments and I feel listened to
when I see her. She really avails herself to being the medical expertise in my
healthcare decisions, but she's letting me steer the boat. Also, her staff is
nice and likes her.

I like my RD but I LOVE my GP---she is very down to earth, smart and nice.
I looked her up on ratemds and she has 19 rave reviews! (out of 20). I have
had her as my GP for a long time and she has always given me very good
care and she often suggests trying home remedies before she writes a
prescription, which I like. She is a really caring person that engages with her
patients.

I was really lucky to find my RD.  He is very "old school" he comes and gets me when it is time for my appointment.  We sit in his office and just review my chart, go over any questions and discuss my treatment.  Then he will examine my feet or my hands or any other place that is hurting.  The times I have called with a question it was my RD who called me back the same day and not his staff.  He truly cares and has been my number one cheerleader.  Unfortunately, I know that next year he will be retiring (he is getting a little absent minded) and I will be going to one of his partners.  I can only hope that they are as compassionate as he has been.

My RD is really good as well.  There is a long wait the day of your appointment but when you get into the room w/ him he doesnt rush you and takes the time to talk to you.  He also takes it personally when I come in and am not feeling well becuase he feels like that hes not doing his job as a dr to keep me healthy.  And since I dont have ins he doesnt charge me every time I go in to see him.

My RD leaves much to be desired and I will be looking for a new one, but my PCP is great.  Takes time with me, LISTENS to me, goes over my labs and signs and symptoms in great detail.  I would not have the functionality that I have now if it wasn't for her.

My RD and I get along great since we had a discussion about his bedside manner.  His bedside manner has improved a small amount but like I've said before bedside manner is secondary to their expertise.  I never have to wait.  The office staff is respectful and efficient. It's a well run medical office and also an extremely busy one.  Lindy

Mathew,

All of my doctors are at least very good if not excellant. I can now function quite well with low pain, 2-3 on the scale. They have put me back together despite my beginning belief that I was smarter than the professionals. I think that some patients have a me, me, me, I, I, I, attitude. They think that when they walk into the doctors office, the clinic or the hospital, the world is supposed to stop for them. I generally have to wait past my appointment time and it doesn't bother me. When I am called in, the doctors don't try to rush me and allow me all the time i want, how can I be mad about a past time appointment. I think that dificult patients are always welcome to shop around and find another office, clinic or hospital. I've seen many of those patients and the staff and doctors are always so nice to them but I'm sure the doctors and staff have a small celebration if they leave and never come back. The world does not revolve around them and they are an annoyance to the patients that realize that. I constantly thank my doctors and staff and am appreciative of the drugs.

Lev, this is sooo true!  I worked in the medical field for 15 years and witnessed this many, many times.  And, we did celebrate when they left.  The proper attitude works wonders and usually gets you good medical care.
