The doctors have been stuborn so advise please. I am on 5 mg pred. Me and the pharmasist were thinking i could try cutting down to 2.5mg of pred. Well i will not wake up to take my meds at that rate. Oh well someone else will have to wake me and forse feed me my antibiotic. That or dentist is wrong and he needs to pull this tooth. Anyway i barely wake up at 5mg of pred. Well i can not see the dentist till monday. And i have already been sleeping to much and messing up my medicine. I do not know how to cut down on pred when you have been on it along time. So i am on 5 mg. I just need to cut down a few days i would like to think. And yes i have some swelling so it will not help that if i cut back on the pred but oh well. Anyway what do you do when you have an infection and you are on pred. How do you cut down. Do you just stop or what do you do?Hi Milly, my Drs have never cut down my pred when I have an infection, they have only ever stopped my Dmards, they usually leave me on my pred and give me antibiotics. Hope this helps,hugs Janie. Well that does help. Maybe i am impatient. It is even possible that it is getting better. I have not needed a pain pill today. I had to look at it and feel it to know there was a hard tender bump up in the gum area. I at least do not feel really sick at the moment. Just tired and off schedual. Will let you know if it is better or worse tomorrow.
cutting down pred when you are actively sick could be dangerous. Your adrenals are already under stress due to the illness if you have been on pred for any length of time your adrenals may not kick back in quite yet.
Talk to your doctor before doing anything. Let him know the pharmacists thoughts
I agree w/ everyone else. Ive never been taken off or been told to decrease my pred when ive been sick. They have only increased it and taken me off the mtx and Humira. Please dont do anything different before talking to your dr!!!Hugs, Milly.
