God, I'm turning into a total pest now - I'm SO sorry just wondered if anyone can shed any light on a blood test result.  Had full count back and shows a low white cell count of 3400 - i think normal is between 4500 and 10000 (in UK anyway).  I'm not on meds - did anyone else have this or know anything - I thought white cell count was supposed to be high - maybe a viral thing has triggered this - soz - just rambling to myself now!  xx My daughters white count is always low.Dr. said it wasn't to be worried about, hers is about the same as yours.i think it is the high white count that is bad.I really don't know for sure but just thought I would let you know about my daughter and her exsperince with low white count.

Hi Julie,

I've had problems with a low white blood cell count for a few months now.  Your normal range seems about right from what my doctor told me and from what I've read.  When mine went as low as 2.5 my doctor called to tell me to go off the methotrexate (this is what was causing mine to get so low) I had to wait for about a month for it to go back up and as of the last time I talked with my doctor is was up to 3.5 and he told me to go back on the methotrexate.  He told me that normal is about 4 so you are a little under at a 3.4

I found this and pasted it here for you to read..might be what is causing your low white blood cell count

"A person may lose white blood cells because they have autoimmune problems - this is where the antibodies that should fight diseases attack the body instead. Other reasons for loss of white blood cells include viral infections. More rarely, this can be a side effect of certain kinds of medication."
