....Christmas.

Stupid thing wouldn't let me put it all in the title....

ANYWAY!

Every Christmas there are "goodies" that Justin and I look forward too. Most of them are food related......Hmmm....no wonder my pants never fit right...

Anyway... arriscolwell39425.3123958333I just finished making peanut brittle and russian teacakes.  I also just finished dipping pretzels in chocolate.  MMMMMM the salt and sweet are just wonderful. But the all time best?

EGGNOG Yup..eggnog for sure!!  I buy the no fat kind and it's just not as good....gonna splurge and buy some REAL eggnog for Christmas.

Iced Sugar Cookies -

We made 20 dozen yesterday!  We make 5 different colors of icing and paint them, then add 'writing icing' to outline features, and add sugars and little candies.  We make some bite sized, and some are huge like you get in the store.  But they taste fantastic!

Pip

I ALMOST FORGOT!!!

OMG Katie, those little debbie christmas cakes are the best!!!!  I dont think there are any others besides what youve said.

any kinds of Christmas cookies

My favorite Little Debbie (not a Christmas thing, but...yum)

STAR CRUNCHES!!

I never buy them just cuz I eat them all, in like 2 days.

"Jingles" Anise-flavored cookies, shaped like Christmas ornaments.  I think they're from Salerno.  I have eaten an entire box in one sitting. Christmas Songs!

David, yeah, I love the Christmas songs too.

I think mine is "Angels We Have Heard on High".  I dopn't think that's the real title, but you know which one.

Decorating the house with wild abandon! Like putting up things that, any other time of year, good taste would absolutely not allow!

Gingerbread Houses! Made by Grandma's loving, arthritic hands and a small child's sweet, precious little hands.

As I read through the posts I thought, yea I like the cookies, some of the songs, watching the old movies, i.e. It's a Wonderful Like and The Christmas Story, but Nini you're right, it's the decorating. Martha Stewart would be proud. I love our tree, it's where I can sit in my chair in the living room and just stare at it in the dark. It's covered with years of special ornaments that belong to our girls. I put spinners on the Hallmark 'Frosty Friends' so they catch the light as they turn around. I am totally pathetic. The main bathroom is decorated with only snowmen, then there's the swags, the candles, I even have a special little tree for all the ornaments the girls have made over the years. Do you wonder why I don't take it all down until Russian New Years. Well baskin & robbins has candy cane ice cream and egg nog ice cream which I love! i gave up dairy as you know but I made an exception! The candy cane ice cream has little crunchy bits of ground up candy canes. MMMMMMMM. Also, we make lots of christmas cookies here.

Christmas is always my favorite time of year.  I love to decorate and shop and bake with my son...the food, the family time, the time OFF of work are all great.  As the old traditions that I had with my cousins and grandparents as a kid have faded away as we all grew up and they have aged, we have begun to create our own traditions with our families, our children. This year will be a year of changes once again as both of my kids now know the truth about Santa. So no more making reindeer food and sprinkling it out on the grass, no more leaving cookies and milk for Santa or sneaking in to fill the stockings and set up the toys in the night.

I am working on some ideas to replace the old Christmas Eve traditions, any ideas? I was thinking along the lines of maybe a secret santa thing...since there are only 4 of us it would be hard to do the white elephant game even though that is fun.

Crunchy, We left cookies and milk for Santa long after my kids were not kids anymore. Just a tradition, and now, if grandkids are around we do it again. My Sweetie LOVES "Santa's" cookies.

I still get up in the miiddle of the night and fill my husband's stocking, and he does mine while I'm asleep.

The gingerbread house I did with my oldest granddaughter for many years, I will soon be doing with the little one. Or maybe I'll get them both over here to make one together. They are 17 and  2

I love Christmas, too, Crunchy! I get a little sad that I can't do all the things I used to do, but everyone still enjoys being together and sharing the joy of the season.

Peace be with you all!

Eggnog Peppermmint nougats , ANYTHING CHOCOLATE!!!! I like the cashew nugget cookies and homemade sandies.  I am trying out several coconut macaroon recipes, because my MIL loves them and I want to make a box of them for her for Christmas from my daughter Rachel, who loves being the sampler for them.  Oh I love 5 layer bars and a mounds bars, they are a cookie bar too.  I love decorating the house and I love putting  my ornaments on the tree and I love giving presents.   We leave the deocarations up till March and then I change everything then.  I take the ornaments off the tree by end of January, we have a fake tree.  We do have 3 shelves up in the living room and these have special little Christmas figurines that we love and they stay out all year.  If my husband had his way it would be Christmas in our house all year long.  meme

Baking......I made butter tarts yesterday mmmmmmm  and Christmas Jewel Bars  last week.

Wrapping presents (buying is a bit of a pain if you have togo to the mall and fight the crowds)

Best thing I love at Christmas is my EGGNOG

1 dozen eggs beaten

2 litres of homo milk

2 litres of whipping cream

8 ounces of icing sugar

1/2 tsp  nutmeg

1 cup rum

Mix it all together (best with whisk or beaters)  and let it sit in the fridge at least overnight.  Keeps for a week.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THIS IS A HEALTH HAZARD!!!!!!!!   STRAIGHT CHOLESTEROL, BUT DAMN IT'S GOOD!
