does anyone get heart palpitations at all?  I get what the docs says was an etopic (extra) beat.  Its horrible it feels like my heart thuds or skips a beat. Also does anyone have rosacea?  Its a skin complaint caused by inflammation on the cheeks and nose and sometimes the forehead - it's like little broken veins or red patches that sometimes flare up if you're too hot or stressed or you use harsh cream etc.  (Had Lupus totally ruled out btw).  Just wondering if there is a connection at all?

LOL Juliex
I had a heart murmur when I was a baby. Do not know if that is anything significant. When I was pregnany I felt like my heart was jumping and missing a beat, but the doc said I was fine *shrugs*Yeah I had that when I was pregnant too.  Think its because the heart is under extra strain during pregnancy and you've got a greater volume of blood to pump round your poor body.  Still the baby's 10 months old now and I'm still getting them - doc said not to worry too - just trying to make connections between things - turning into a detective I think Never had heart issues beyond high blood pressure... and I've never been given the rosacea dx either.. I do have what is typical for a lupus butterfly rash but my doc ruled out lupus.

JULIE, AFTER MY LAST RA FLARE, END OF MAY THRU JULY 5, WAS HAVING PLEUISY AND IRREGULAR HEARTBEATS AND SHARP PAINS AROUND MY HEART.  LUNG XRAY SHOWED SOME PLEUISY AND HEART DR DID ECHO  AND STRESS TEST.  PASSED THE STRESS TEST BUT SAID I HAD MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE.  THIS IS HEART VALVE DAMAGE.  VALVE DOES NOT CLOSE PROPERLY AND ALLOWS SOME BLOOD TO SEEP BACK INTO THE HEART.  WITH THIS PROBLEM, HEART HAS TO WORK HARDER AND MIGHT BECOME ENLARGED OVER TIME, CAN CAUSE FATIGUE, HIGHER RISK FOR HEART ATTACK OR STROKE AND DUE TO DAMAGE YOU MUST TAKE ANTIBIOTICS BEFORE ANY DENTAL OR MEDICAL PROCEDURE.  I WORE A HEART MONITOR  FOR THE WEEKEND.  DR SAYS SHOWED HEART ARRITHMIA.  HE PUT ME ON ZOCOR AND LOW DOSE ASPIRIN.  ZOCAR WAS BURNING UP MY MUSCLES AFTER A MONTH AND HAD TO COME OFF.  ASPIRIN WITH NSAIDS CAUSED ULCER.  SAID COULD BE CONGENITAL WHICH I DON'T BUY THAT.  I HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY HEART.  DID SOME RESEARCH AND SAID DAMAGE COULD BE FROM UNDIAGNOSED LUPUS, ENDOCARDITIS (HEART INFECTION)...GOT MRSA IN LYMPH NODES AND DOWN BREAST DUCTS A YR AGO SO A PROBABILITY.   SEE THE HEART DR NEXT MONTH AS FOLLOW UP.  HAVING TO TAKE SOME TEST WITH GASTRO DR FOR ULCER IN 3 WEEKS (COLONOSCOPY AND ENDOSCOPY).  IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER.  HEART DR DID SAY YOU CAN HAVE RA INFLAMMATION IN BREASTBONE, INFLAMMATION CAN ALSO AFFECT HEART AND LUNGS AS WELL. I have been diagnosed with RA for just over five years (after just being told for years that I was 'getting old' or 'not getting enough regular exercise') but I have had palpitations for as long as I can remember.  It is an odd feeling as mine involve skipped beats.  Can happen anytime and all of a sudden your heart just stops beating, hesitates for a couple of seconds, and then plays catch-up with a few fast beats and then resumes normal rhythm.  Doctors are totally unimpressed and said not to worry about them.  One finally caught it happening on an ekg and looked somewhat startled.  I laughed and said 'finally'.  I thought they all thought I was nuts since of course the heart doesn't perform on command.  If you are having no pain around the heart when this happens then it is probably not to worry about.  Report it to the doc anyway.  If you ever read novels of the old South you probably read where the heroine (delicate person that she always is) had the "vapors".  That is the same as palpitations.  So you can tell everyone you have the vapors since it sounds so much more feminine!!!

mine seems to do that at night when i am trying to sleep but my mind wont shut off... glad im not alone and that im not going to die...

I mean it will THUD really hard and then seem to stop for a sec... and feeling it and hearing it makes me stress and seems to make it worse!!! but i have had a physical recently and go to my RD and PCP regularly , so i guess im ok!!! WHeW!!!

I've never had palpitations or skipping beats, but I went to the doc and got
my chest pain checked out (I've been having it for a month but refused to
believe I was having a heart attack at 22 ) and I have pleurisy. I had to
have an ECG and everything just to be sure.

Weird and wonderful things this RA does to you hey? would recommend two things, an echocardiagram for mitral valve prolapse and have a cortisol test for adreanal insufficiency.  Can cause many of the problems your having.

I have cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. My regular resting heart beat has an extra beat in every three. (trigiminy) However, if I take more than 15 mg of prednisone, I will start getting extra beaats ALLLL over the place. Whne it frst happened, I didn't make the connection, (and neither did my cardio doc which was unusual for him) and the beats were coming often and hard enough that he was talking to me about a pacemaker.

I guess this is a round about way of sayign check your meds, prednisone can cause palpitations.Check your meds

I have both.Have had heart checked out(heart monitor, echo, scans) I have heart murmur and mitral valve prolapse. The main reason I went in to see the heart dr. was due to the irregular heart beats.Sometimes feels like I have a fish fluttering around in my chest.I use to take meds. for it but that was mainly to keep me from worrying abou it.It helped to steady my heart but dr. said I really didn't need the med. best just to ignore the palpatations and remember they are not harmful.

I was told I had lupus by an orthopedic one time.My right ankle was very swollen and hurt sooo bad.he took one look at me and said you have lupus.I had just seen my reheumy and she said I didn't lupus, bloodwork was negative. After seeing the orthopedic I went to a dermatalogist. She said rosecea.

ALway something.

Susan
