I've been looking through my grandmothers recipe's trying to find her bread pudding recipe and can't seem to locate it. Does anyone have this recipe? I know there are many variations, so any help would be most appreciated. I want to make it at Christmas.

Thanks!

Try allrecipes.com if no one answers. They have tons of recipes and people post how good/bad it turned out.

Happy cooking!

Had one a long time ago, I'll try and find it.

LynnMmmm, no but it sounds good? I would search the internet. It's usually using cubes of stale bread (crusty bread like a baguette) and soaking them overnight in an egg/cream custard and then baking in the morning right?

I think I'm going to try to find a recipe for a breakfast casserole for Christmas Eve morning (Yes I make a big deal out of Christmas EVE too!). I think Bisquick has a recipe for one. Anyone have any suggestions?Blessed, try foodtv.com - I think Emeril had one.

Ok this kinda relates...

Monday night... I ate a whole box of rice pudding by myself. Yeah... the cat licked the bowl before I had a chance to lick the bowl. J/K

No... BUT really I ate the whole thing of rice pudding in one sitting. One of the Jell-O boxes you make of it. I will PM you also....Thanks! Okay, I'm not sure if you mean me, but if you do I will post it after while.  I have to run an errand with my daughter right now, so when I get home.Blessed. I have my mom in laws recipe. I'll dig it out and get it to you. That
does sound very christmasy(is that a word?)

Hi Blessed. I'm giving you a recipe from my favorite cookbook, which is now held together with duct tape

PERFECT BREAD PUDDING

2-1/4 C. milk

2 slightly beaten eggs

2 Cups 1-inch day old bread cubes

1/2 C. brown sugar

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. vanilla

1/4 tsp. salt

1/2 C. raisins

Combine milk and eggs; pour over bread cubes. Stir in remaining ingredients. Pour mixture in 8-inch round baking dish. Place in shallow pan on oven rack; pour hot water around it 1 inch deep. Bake at 350 degrees about 45 minutes or intil knife inserted halfway between center and outside comes out clean.

Note to Blessed: I don't know if you really have to put in in the pan of hot water or not. That's what my recipe says, though. Good Luck! If you try it, please let me know how it comes out.

Happy cooking! Hugs, Nini

Thanks Lorster and Linncn...I really appreciate it. Now I am hungry for rice pudding again.

I LOVE bread pudding! I brings back so many memories. My Mom has been gone for 11 years, but certain foods just makes it feel as if she is still here with me. I grew up in a big family and the kitchen was the heart of the house.

Enjoy experimenting with all the recipes. Let me know which you like best. If there are more recipes out there for bread pudding I would love to try them.

Have fun. We're starting our cookies and fudge this week. I'm so glad my husband loves to cook!

Hugs, Nini

I think you're right, Blessed, about the pan of water. That makes sense. I thought maybe it steamed it, but your explanation is more likely.

Yes Ma'am...same here. I can taste my Grandmothers bread pudding as we speak. So buttery...it would just melt in your mouth...yummy. I just have to find her recipe. She also had recipes for orange and lemon sauces for it as well. The last couple of years before she passed i tried to make the 3 hour drive as often as I could. Would rack her brain about our family tree, life growing up for her, and spending time writing down all her recipes.

I miss her terribly...but what a time to be in heaven...Jesus' birthday! The way the world is going, don't think it will be long before we're all going to be attending that party!

She made that and also an apple pie type dish. like layers of pastry on the bottom and then apples and a crumb crust I think. It was so good!

Oh! I think the hot water bath is very important. Ya use it for cheesecake too to keep it from burning.
