Neck pain? | Arthritis Information

Good morning, everyone!! I hope this morning finds everyone in great spirits and with little or no pain. We've got snow falling this morning and everything smells clean. It's such a peaceful and serene setting.

I have a question for you guys. Do any of you experience neck pain from time to time? Every now and then I'll have some pain, but today it's pretty noticeable. Sometimes when I turn my head, I get a burning sensation and it feels like it's coming from my spine/base of my neck area. I've never had that before and it's quite uncomfortable. On the painful side, but "do-able" as I tell my doc. She gets aggravated with me when she asks if I hurt and I tell her, "yeah, but it's do-able." She doesn't want me to be in any pain. Great doc! So anyways, back to my neck issues. Have any of you had anything like this happen?

I'm going to take a hot shower and see if that helps. If it doesn't, I'll try the heating pad. If neither works for me, I think I'm gonna take a vicodin and see if it gets any better. I do have an RD appointment next week and will bring it up then.

Hope everyone is having a superfantastic and extra comfortable day!

Hope the shower helps and you're feeling better soon.

Kelly

I do, but it isn't RA related - ddd, lardosis, stenosis, etc. etc.

Well, I took the shower and it really wasn't that big of a help. *sigh* Stupid RA.

I'm sorry you have to experience this, too, Kel. It's pretty dang uncomfortable.

KB, What is "ddd"?

Yes, I just had a terrible bout of neck pain which gravitated to my jaw.  Naproxen helped more than a hot shower, but I'm like you, I like to try the non-meds approach first.

yep.  Put me down for the neck pain.  Hot showers are wonderful.  Naproxin helps too.meldozRA39427.5632986111Yep me too but like I said everywhere from the nose to the toes.  Yes, I do get neck pain.  And whenever it's RA related, I always get a terrible sore throat along with it.  Anyone else ever get the sore throat too?

Oh yeah, Linccn, the sore throat.........I HATE THAT!!!!  When I get the neck pain it also radiates to the jaw.  Also have a problem w/throat swelling due to RA in the voice box joint.  Can't remember the name of that particularly annoying and painful symptom.  Lately, the sore throat seems to be present waaaay too often.

Mel, I hope the neck pain doesn't stay around too very long, it is so hard to deal with.

All the best.

Crispy

Yes the joint where the back and neck are joined I swell there big time. It makes the tendon that goes up to the back of your scalp really stiff. I think my swelling in this joint effects all the areas around it. Or else i also swell in all the areas around it. I have some of that swelling in my lower jaw. Oh my I swell everywhere lets face it. But yes that is a big area of complaint for me. Probably not spelling this right but capsacian cream helps along with vicoden if the pain gets to bad. I put some on this joint and surrounding area as well as the neck. If it is not to bad just use the cream and skip the pain pill.

I don't get a sore throat but I did get the jaw pain this last time and I'm convinced it had something to do with my ringing ear.  I have noticed over the last few years that I sometimes have difficulty swallowing and my throat feels swollen.  In fact, I had to stop using the Prometrium I've taken for several years because I could no longer swallow it.  It's rubbery and round and gets stuck.  But I can swallow those big calcium horse pills no problem because of their shape.  Go figure.

Yup on the neck pain.  Usually have shoulder pain at the same time.  I'm thinking the shoulder pain is referred from the neck, or inflammed tendons.  Sitting with the heating pad on right now.  Love my microwave heating bag for the office!  Stupid disease.

Nothing really helped me that much yesterday, but today my neck seems to be back to normal. Just the regular pains to contend with.

Hope everyone has a superfantastic and comfortable day!

Glad you're feeling better today :) Yes, I get neck pain too. I have desiccated (dried up) disks at c4,5 and 6 with bone spurs all around. This is usually what wakes me up despite taking ambien for sleep. I get those thermacare heat thingies, htey have an adhesive side so I can "glue" it to the inside of my shirt right where the pain is. They help, last for 8-12 hours, but pretty pricey 3 of them are about 8 bucks. Well worth the cost to me.I have really bad neck and shoulder pain. That's why my RD gave me the meds the other day. They're not even coming near to touching the pain. I had a recent x-ray which showed my OA is getting worse, so he sent me for an MRI yesterday, but I have clausterphobia and the machine wasn't open enough for me and I panicked. I never used to be this bad with closed spaces. I couldn't do it, not even for 20 minutes.Glad you seem to have recouped from it, Mel.

If it happens again, I find when one spot is playing up like that sometimes going to bed with the heat pack on the spot ie lower back, neck helps a lot. I think too because the heat combines with you going to sleep and relaxing. Anyway give it a try.
