Herb remedies really worked! | Arthritis Information

Hi, I recently bought some herbal remedy recipes from www.herbalmedicinerecipes.com for my arthritis and it actually worked very well! But I was wondering why herbs aren't as popular as a regular medicine? Is there some side effects that I might not know about? I just used some regular herbs that I bought at my local store, so I don't see how they can harm me. Please share any info that you might have. Herbs can be very dangerous, because long term human studies and efficacy as well as purity are always concerns. Good examples are St. John's Wort which can interfere with the concentration of other medications, and Kava kava and comfrey, which are known irreversible hepatotoxins, ephedra which can increase the risk of ischemic stroke etc. I would always use caution while taking on these products and check safety with both my physician and pharmacist, especially if I intend to use them long term. I think that provided you check with your doctors and pharmacist using anything to help that is herbal is a great thing. But checking is a good idea because sometimes herbal things can have an interaction with other things you are already taking that only your doctors would know about.

Provided you do that, I think using anything and everything to fight this thing is the way to go. If it has a result for you...go for it.

I think a lot of this could work and some really exciting research is coming out - but we need to check for interactions.  My thought is if it really is something simple and abundant - we're not going to hear about it from Pharma.  :-)

I posted this before but for those of you that may have missed it or overlooked it, you may find it quite interesting. And Joonie, the gin soaked raisins are supposed to work and many people believe it, not just grandpa. This is a site of folk remedies:

Sorry...not really up on natural and herb remedies...but how could herbs be bad for you? Are they not all natural?  [QUOTE=zuikis]Hi, I recently bought some herbal remedy recipes from www.herbalmedicinerecipes.com for my arthritis and it actually worked very well! Grandpa did not believe in it... he overheard someone mentioning it to someone else and then told me about it. Because after I asked hubby why I would spend 1000's of $$'s on meds when I could just eat some gin soaked golden raisins for a week or so and be cured, Grandpa said "I do not know anything about it, just that it has been around for a 100 plus years. And that is what I heard someone telling some else."

before you know it... everyone will be wanting me to spray WD-40 on my painful, non-moving joints to help get the stiffness and lack of ROM out of them. Hummm... wonder what is going to take away the pain? The carbon dioxide? The Mineral Oil?

Pip, that herb site is excellent.  Very detailed with great information.

I know that one problem with herbs is that, because they're not regulated, it's possible to buy a product with much less than the advertised amount of herb being sold.  That is, you could be paying a lot of money for nothing.  Someone here posted about this topic, saying to be sure and check for a USP/NSF rating on the bottle.  I think this was for herbs as well as vitamins, but I'm not sure.  That rating is supposed to ensure a good product.

Poisons are also natural! Anyone ever try the gin-soaked raisins. I heard about them, but by the way they were touted I seriously doubt they work otherwise there would be no one on this board lol!
