I called the pharmacist about the gel caps and she referred me to the local compounding pharmacy who carries them. The pharmacist there won't give them to me without a prescription because apparently there's a problem with people using them for illegal drug purposes. I called my OB/GYN to request the gel caps and a new scrip for prometrium. They haven't called back to refuse yet, so I think it's a go. I'm so happy with the prospect of being able to go back on the hormone that made me feel so much better than my current med. I had no idea a pill could be put into another form for easier swallowing. This small achievement is going to help improve the quality of my life and I appreciate so much the information you gave. This forum and the people on it RULE!!! had no idea you needed a prescription, though. In Canada they're given for
the asking. I can't see how getting one would be a problem, though.

Glad I could help.You can get them mail order from many supplement stores. I know I've seen them advertised, but I just can't remember what site. Glad the problem is solved for you Jesse. I remember how tough it was for me when I couldn't swallow tablets because of their shape and my swollen throat.

Mail order? Thanks Jas, another good idea. I guess I'll just get them from the drug store this time and compare the price with mail order for next time. As of 2:00 the prescription for the prometrium and gel caps still hadn't been called in (I called the doctor several hours earlier) but I haven't heard anything from the office either, so I don't expect any problem. The only issue I can think of that there could possibly be is that she (the doctor) would think the double casing on the medication would keep it from being released in the body at the right time. The fact that they are sold at all makes me think this shouldn't be a problem.
