Has anybody experienced an attack of gout that might due to prolotherapy treatments?
Over the past year I've had severe lower back pain and decided to try prolotherapy as a potential cure. Three weeks ago I had my first series of prolo injections and am scheduled for another treatment next week. I did not seem to have any side effects to the injections.
Five days ago I suddenly got an acute attack of gout. It was very painful and I had to go to a podiatrist for cortisone shots in the foot.
I have never had gout before. My dietary habits are quite healthy. The podiatrist did a blood test and my uric acid level is within the normal range (7.4, which is near the upper limit of the normal range). I realize that measuring uric acid levels during an attack is inaccurate. I can't think of any unusual event that could have caused this gout attack except perhaps the prolo injections. Any thoughts?
