I just wanted to share my pride with everyone....

My son enlisted in the US Navy this week.  He is a "DEP"...delayed enlistment - which means he goes as soon as he graduates in May.  He will leave for basic trainining on Aug 13th to Great Lakes.

I'm happy, scared, excited, and worried...but mostly, I'm just proud to be a Navy Mom.

My prayers be with you and your family. We too have a son that just enlisted in Sept. He has graduated from basic, but is still in Great Lakes.

Yes we share the same feelings as you...it is bitter-sweet, yes?

Congrats!!!  Great Lakes is not to far from where I am at.  Tell him thank you for protecting our country

Awesome!  I was hoping that someone here could relate to me.  Did you attend the RTC graduation?  If so...what was it like?

That is wonderful news.  Bittersweet, but wonderful at the same time.  I am so glad that he has your support!  He will need that...basic is awful!!My husband said to call him a raisin.  I have no idea what that means, but he will :)  Thanks to him for serving our Country.  CathyWe are all proud of your son. I understand your mixed emotions as a mother. But i also wish to tell your son thank you. I will pray for him. I will also pray that you do not worry to much. I know it all goes with being a mother, sometimes being a mom is just hard. You should be so proud.

I grew up as a Navy brat. Lived all over on bases. I remember as a kid
thinking how "hot" the young ones were. When I was in high school I
used to flirt with them at the Exchange or the bowling alley. My dad
came in one day and put a stop to that. He was a Captain at the time and
nobody wanted to get on his bad side.

Oh well....

Congratulations again. He is doing an awesome thing.

BeckyCongratulations, Claire!!

My nephew, who is in the army, just returned to his home base of Alaska after a year in Iraq.  He will be on leave for a month starting December 22.  It will be good to see him.

You must be so proud of him, Claire! Please tell him "Thank-you" for serving our country. And the same for you Blessed and Linn, and all the moms who have children in our military. I'm grateful for all of you.

Claire, Blessed and anyone else with loved ones in the military, you have a right to be proud and we are SO proud of you and your family.  Bless their hearts, every one of them, for protecting our country and our freedom.

Your heart must be absolutely swelling with pride!

My hubby served in the Navy for about 9yrs and loved it. Your son is going to have such a blast learning new things and meeting people. I swear my hubby has friends *everywhere*!   Congratulations! You should be very proud of your son! Love and hugs, julia

Thanks to all of you for your fantastic messages of support!

I was also raised a "Navy brat", and it was a great life.  I lived all up and down the East cost most of my life, until high school, when Dad retired.  So...I've always been the proud daughter of a US Navy Sailor, and now I am also the mom of one!

Tell your son Thank You.  We will keep you and your family in our prayers here.

My son is still in high school but KNOWS that he wants to be in the military.  I am proud and scared at the same time--and I have a couple of years before he can actually do anything.

You'll be up in my neck of the woods for graduation!  The young Navy guys and girls can be seen out and about all over Lake County, Illinois.  During graduation weekends, the hotels in the area are filled with families from across the States watching their loved ones graduate.  In the summer, the sailors like to go to Great America (amusement park) and in the winter, they can often be found at Gurnee Mills, Hawthorn, and other indoor shopping malls in the area.  My youngest son wants to be in the military when he grows up, and he always loves seeing the Navy people around town.  He often walks up and tells them "thank you for keeping us safe".[QUOTE=JasmineRain] [QUOTE=Claire]

That is so sweet!  Reminds me of myself, back when Dad was in Vietnam in 1967....I would see sailors home on leave and would walk up to them and tell them the same thing.  I would also ask every one of them if they knew my dad.  He was gone 13 months and I have never missed anyone more greatly than I did him that year.  But nobody has made me any prouder (until now) than my Dad, either.

I look at my son when he sleeps now...and part of me still sees that sweet little 2 year old boy who fell asleep with his baseball cap on, still holding the baseball.... He is my heart.  May God watch over him, and all who serve and have served our country.

Now I' all choked up...again.

Claire, I'll help keep watch over him and all his peers when he's up here at Great Lakes.
