OT: dh in hospital | Arthritis Information

So he has always had tummy troubles, but this time it is different. We went out to a night club...which we never do but it was for a friend of mine's birthday and so there we were. We had only been there for about an hour and a half when my dh tripped over some extension cords that were laying out on the ground (of a darkened night club mind you) and he fell down. He took the 2 or 3 steps needed to get to the table where we were seated and then turned to me and said " I just broke my leg!" At first I thought he was just exaggerating but then when I told him to try and lets go out of the club, he couldnt stand or even move his leg. I went and found one of the guys that I work with and he and another friend got my husband out to the door way where I got him in the car and we headed to the ER where I work. So...turns out he has a tibial plateau fracture basically meaning that the top of the tibia ( calf bone) is broken up at the top and up into his knee joint.

He has been admitted to the hopital and will have to have surgery. He is going to be out of work for God knows how long...and well..could this have come at a better time?? Anyways we are in the hospital now..and awaiting re-eval to determine a surgery date based on the level of swelling and how soon it all goes down. Hi Crunchy, so sorry to hear about your DH, how unfortunate, I hope its not too damaged etc.  Have you checked into claiming compensation for all your bills from the night club, I definitely would say they are at fault.  Best of luck, Janie.

OMG how horrible!!  Definitly get the club to pay for his medical treatment and compensation...I hope he gets better real quickly, keep us updated on how he is doing and when he goes in for surgery.  Hopefully he wont have to stay in the hospital to long w/ Christmas right around the corner.  Dont forget to take care of your self too hun. OMG, what a panic situation!  I feel so bad for both of you and definitely get a lawyer!  The night club should be totally responsible for this. Keep us posted and take care of yourself.

Oh, Crunchy, how horrible. I can't even imagine how bad that must have hurt. This will be hard for both of you to get through but you have each other and my heart goes out to both of you.

Remember to take some deep breaths, and try to relax as much as possible

I agree with the others, pubs an dsuch have insurance specifically for that reason and I you will have to file an accident report with them.

In the meantime, take care of yourself...your life sounds like mine, ALWAYS SOMETHING happening, always the unexpected.

hugs,

jode

That is awful and should never have happened.  I used to work for an insurance company in the legal department and the night club is most definitely responsible for all your medical bills as well as damages for pain and suffering.  They have (or should have) insurance for just such an occurrance.  If possible, have someone go back to the club and take pictures of the cord your husband tripped over.  If there were any witnesses, that would be helpful too.  Did you say anything to the manager before you left?  If not, do it right away. Tell him what happened and ask him to alert his insurance company.  And don't sign ANYTHING the club or their insurance company may stick under your nose until you have an attorney review it.  I don't believe in suing over frivolous things or to make a quick buck (that's not just  wrong, it's immoral) but you shouldn't have to pay for someone else's negligence.  Clear and simple.  Good luck to you.  crunchy - what a terrible, avoidable accident.  Don't wear yourself out, because it sounds like he is going to need alot of help over the next couple of months.  Best of luck and take care ~~ Cathy

OMG!!! That's just horrible!! I hope he's not in too much pain and recovers quickly. I definitely agree with everyone that the club should be held liable. (Jesse's got some great advice.)

I'll be thinking of you guys.

This is a bad break, as you well know, and a painful one.   He may have 24 hours of bad pain before the meds help.  Take care and keep us posted.  You and your husband will be in my thoughts.  Lindy

I am so sorry to hear about your husband. I hope he heals quickly from his surgery and is feeling better soon! Love and hugs, juliaouch...that's gotta hurt!  Sorry this happened....hope he's feeling better soon!

Crunchy, I'm so sorry! I sure hope they can get his pain under control soon. I know there are some pains that are difficult to control, no matter how much medication you are on. He must have a high pain tolerance. I cannot even imagine how he was able to get back to the table after falling!

Please take care of yourself. It's very easy to wear yourself down  when you are worried and trying to take care of everything by yourself.

Please let us know how everything goes. You know you have a lot of friends here who care about you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband.

Gentle hugs, Nini

It never rains but pours. My wish is for a speedy recovery without any further complications.

I'm so sorry Crunchy!

Thank you...I have been telling him today of all the people that have sent well wishes and prayers his way even though they dont know him...every little bit of support makes a difference. We will keep you in our prayers. You have both been threw so much.
