Over the Counter medicines | Arthritis Information

I haven't asked by doctor yet about the dosage of over the counter medicines.   I have aspirin, Arthritic Strength Tyelnol and Naperson.   I take one type for a few days and then try one of the others.

My rheumatologist told me to take only as prescribed on the bottle and I should be ok.   All of them have really revised their dosage.

Naperson wants one to take only 2 and then only 1 more in a 24 hour time frame.   Tyelnol, says to take only 2 every 6 hours, and buffered aspirin says the same.

What I am wondering if I take Naperson, can I take 2 Tyelnol about 6 hours later.   Since they are two different types of medicine, I wonder if one can mix them.

Really, I do need to ask a doctor, but wondering if anyone has already asked their doctor,  so I would know before I get to my doctor again.   I'm not scheduled for any appointments, so don't know when I will go again.  Thank you, Mary

Hi Mary, what I do when I need to know this sort of thing is look in my drug encyclopedia, where each one is listed with all possible interactions and mix/max dose for various different purposes. But I can't help you with these as they are in their American generic names and I dunno what they are! otherwise, just google the drug name and you should get plenty of consumer information on each one, including the interractions and dosages. Finally, your friendly local pharmacist could help you. Mine is very good, and if she doesn't know something, will look it up on her computer.

Thank you, that is a very good idea about doing a google search.  The pharmacists in my town are so busy, they probably would be a bit crabby if I asked.  There are usually three or four if not more people standing in line.

Ever since we got the prescription drug Part D to Medicare, all drugstores are swamped and we even got a new one.  In my town of about 11,000 people we have four pharmacies and they always swamped.

I go do a google search....should have thought of it myself, thank you.  Mary

Some month ago, Bob posted a link about interaction of medicines. I copy part of his post:

Dear Folks,  I brought up the question of drug interactions in the "skin and pred" thread and decided to check Google for help.  If you enter "drug interaction" you'll get all kinds of sources.  I picked one that said you could list up to 20 drugs: http://www.medscape.com/druginfo/druginterchecker

I have many medicines, so I was glad to test this link
