Well, the surgeon came by today around noon and increased the ammount of morphine Danny can have on the PCA pump by double. She also added some phenergan and pain pills for back up if needed. He finally was able to eat a few bites of food and get some sleep. I took the opportunity to go home and check on the kids, critters, house etc and gather some belongings. I got back to the hospital and after checking on Danny and helping him clean up, I took a hot hot shower...best shower ever! So I feel like I have a new perspective on things...funny how theraputic a shower can be. The reality is this...he is going to be non weight bearing for around 8-12 weeks after surgery, then relearning to use that leg for another 6-8 weeks. He is to expect around 6-9 months for full recovery. They are going to use cadaver bone to do a bone graft and then also insert pins. Surgery is scheduled for 730 am tommorrow. So...I will be contacting the club this evening..and hopefully everything will go off with out a hitch. Really..I just still am kind of in shock that this is the real deal and this is what is happening to us. What will we take away from this character building experience? That which doesnt kill us only makes us stronger right?
I'm in shock for you!! Please please do not let this go with the club. You know, if it was a simple little break, or a sprain, I can see not really making a stink about it. But this is a situation where someone's carelessness is going to change close to an ENTIRE YEAR of a whole family's lives. It's not fair to you, and they need to be VERY aware of that, and they HAVE to help you out. It's only right. Hang in there! Absolutely, we are going to need compensation for lost wages for him...and I am not sure about me, I mean how can I stay home and take care of him after surgery when I am scheduled all this week? I am going to have to work. I cant miss...we are really going to need the money for sure now. Grants birthday is Jan 7 and we have tons of bills to pay too...this is a terrible time of year to have this happen. I have tried to reach someone at the club but all there is is an answering machine so I left a message. We have the name and phone number of an attorney that was recommended by a good friend of ours, and one of the nurses I work with is also a personal injury attorney so we have some resources in mind should the club choose not to be cooperative. I was so pleased to read that Danny's pain meds were doubled to the point where he could get some real relief. Your story has stayed with me and you and your family will remain in my prayers as you go through the steps to his full recovery. Good to know you have full confidence in his doctors - that means an awful lot. Boy - from one day to the next one has no idea what life is going to throw. Be strong and know that you have a lot of support from people you don't even know. Cynthia Crunchy, sorry to hear this breaking news. For some reason it reminded me of a favvy saying my folks used to quote, it went something like this,"It never rains but it pours". Please take care of yourself, Ron
