One of the nursing forums give this website as the most reputable company
for getting a home transcription job. It is pricey but comes with good
comments from the nurses. Anyway, wanted to share it as I know that there
has been questions about this.
I am seriously thinking about this this morning.

That is who I am taking classes through.  It is a great place to take transcription classes w/.  Hey Shannon. When will you be done with it? I am really considering this.
And is it easy to learn? Will it be easy for you to get clients when you are
finished? Let me know.

Its taken me a while only cause we've moved in the procces and a lot has happened in the past 6 months to prevent me from working on it full time. Its not to hard to learn, the hardest part is figuring out what these drs are saying since 90% of them cant speak clearly.  But since your a nurse already you souldnt have to much of a problem getting through the class.  Career step helps you find a job when you are done w/ the class.

LOL, if you think they can't speak, you should check out their penmanship.
We joke all the time that they must have taken horrible writing skills 101 in
med school.

Another question. So, you don't just go with your local doctors? Do you
venture out all over the country as isn't it all online? I'm not sure how that
part of it works. Lorster Usually when working as an at home transcriptionist it is for drs, hospitals, etc. in your area.  The medical transcriptionist association suggest to make sure to check your area as to what the demand for transcriptionist is because some areas of the country there is a glut of transcriptionists.  they also suggest working in a hospital or drs office enviroment for a while to get experience under your belt before trying to work from your home.  Check your local community college they may have the program online.  My community college has the program for 95 which includes your books and digital transcriptionist equipment and you have 6 months to finish the program at your pace and if you need longer you can take up to another 6 months without an extra charges,  there is a teacher you are in constant contact for any questions and she is the author of several workbooks for transcriptionists too.  i have been considering this program but am also looking into coding anda couple other programs too.  meme

THey provide the computer, monitor, ect. You need a high speed cable connection is all.

I had thought about it quite seriously, but,(yeah but) you have to have excellant typing skills, type fast with very minimal errors. You are paid on a scale of your typing per minute and accuracy. When you accomplish that, it is an excellant job with benefits with the possibility of making a very good living.

ANd yes, many of the Dr's are difficult to understand but she said that you learn their speech and it goes quite fluent after that.

jodejjr39433.3713657407Hi Lorster, I have supervised transcriptionists and have done editing but have never done it myself. We have a transcriptionists program at the college I teach and and the local hospitals have them work as interns.  There are national companies that hire people to work at home and some just start their own business.

Here is a link to the national association for transcriptionists and one for the American health information management association that has on online coding program.  I teach coding and reimbursement and there are more and more certified coders working from home. Every quarter I have a nurse or two start coding classes.  Many of them are trying to get jobs as a chart reviewer. They work with the charts as the patient is still in house.  They must know coding to do this.
