Anti CCP? | Arthritis Information

If the Anti CCP test comes back positive then you most likely have RA, right? Well, if you test Negitive does that mean you most likely DO NOT have RA? My Dr. is letting me get the test and it got me thinking...uh oh, I'm thinking again!!
This could be bad, LOL This is the info I have got on the test - please don't quote me though - but I researched it as best I could before I asked for the test.

Anti CCP test is a more sensitive test than RF to detect RA.

If the Anti CCP test is postive there is a 96% chance that its because you have RA where as a weak positive for RF can mean other things.

If the Anti CCP test is negative then there is a 60% you don't have RA and obviously still a 40% chance that you do.  There reason I got it is because the guys here advised me to and also because I got litrature from RA society in UK talking about it.  The Anti CCP test is more to confirm RA than rule it out.  Hope this helps - everyone please correct me if I'm wrong.  If my test comes back positive then I'm taking it to my Rheumy and I'm going to ask him what the hell he was playing at telling me I don't have this coz the odds totally say I do if its positive.

If it's negative then DX is still up in the air for me - next stop's a bone scan.  I tell you I'll end up sicker from all the radiation than I will from anything else at this rate.

Staci, you sound as bad as me.  I take it this stuff is running over in your head all day too.

Ohhhhhhh Yeah!! Round and round and round it goes!
Thanks for the response Julie, you ROCK!! I'm RF negative and anti-CCP negative, but my rheumy quashed any hope of
me not having RA Thanks for the replies. After yesterdays episode, I think I am going to cancel the Anti CCP test and just start my Sulfasalazine now. I thought it might change the result of the test so I was going to wait. I'm afraid to wait now.
OR...does anyone know if Sulfasalazine would change the result of the Anti CCP test or not affect it? Hmmmmmmmm
I don't think meds change the result but I'm not sure - personally - although check with everyone else first - I would probably start the meds and then still have the test.  If I was you at the moment I think the main reason I wouldn't want to start the meds would be becuase it's admitting that you have RA and that's hard to do.
