I am RADIOACTIVE!! | Arthritis Information

Went for my bone scan, today. They injected me with radioactive tracer. Then I had to wait 3 hours before they would even scan me.

The scanning only took 30mins if that.

I am tired... did not sleep much. So... gonna go take a nap.

Oh yeah! I wonder if I go in my bedroom and turn off all the lights and make is dark in there, that I would be able to see myself glowing It just made me feel really tired after getting the injection. I am waiting on son to fall asleep. I hope he does take a nap. I just want to lay down and sleep and be warm!I had one of those too. The only thing that freaked me out was how close
the camera got to you. If you coughed, you would hit it.Did they do the whole body or just the hip?

Milly, Are you maybe thinking about the bone density scan? With those they do hip and spine or just one or the other.

The one Joonie is talking about is done in "nuclear medicine" and is of the whole body. They inject you with a small amount of radioactive material, then you wait 3 hours while it gets through your body. Bright spots will show up for certain things, like arthritis, tumors, certain injuries, cancer or certain other points of interest.

Sorry I jumped in there, but thought maybe I could clarify the test for you

Joonie, I remember that I thought the same thing with mine. I expected to glow in the dark

Hugs, Nini

Yeah they done from head to toe at first, and then they did a "close up" of my hips. Which is what I went and got the bone scan done for in the first place, which was for my right hip.

The only thing that freaked me out was the needle, the rest was just "normal"

When I was a graduate student (physics), we were building a particle detector out of depleted uranium plates.  The dangerous isotope is removed (depleted) but the plates still give off a lot of low energy radation...so weak it doesn't penetrate clothing but it will still register on a geiger counter.  Anyway we came back from lunch and there was this construction worker sitting on a pile of the uranium plates eating a sandwidch.  The bright yellow radiation warning sign was clearly visible between his legs.  One of the guys on our team, not me, walked by with a geiger counter and stopped when it started cliking.  He brought the counter close to this guy and it went offscale with a loud clicking sound.  The guy eating the sandwich looked down, saw the sign, and turned white as a sheet...pretty funny.  It took a while to convince him he was OK.  I know...physicists have a weird sense of humor.

I work in a mineral exploration office with a bunch of dorky/geeky geologists and after I got back from my radioactive test they got out a geiger counter (measures radiation) and held it up to me to see how radioactive I really was. It was hilarious. They were quite disappointed when I didn't hardly register at all.

Mother-in-law had it done when she had Hodgkins Disease about 9 years ago. And they told her to stay away from pregnant women for a few days.

I was wondering if the radioactive tracer would mess with the eggs in our ovaries? Or if you were on or close to your "monthly bill" if it would make that egg something wrong with it?

Just wondering. As hubby was kinda worried about his spermy-wormies. Not like we are looking to have another ankle biter.
