Biotin really does work for hairloss | Arthritis Information

Hi All and Merry christmas! About a month back someone posted the use of Biotin for hairloss. I just want to let you know it worked great for me. My hair was thinng so badly and falling out three or more hairs at a time. Call me vain but with all the problems and drugs with RA I was about to fall apart thinking I would be bald!!!!

After about a month tada...nothing is falling at all!!. I tried iron and spironolactone on the advice of my GP but nothing happened besides peeing more LOL. So If I can pass on one bit of good news to you that are experiencing the same...go to Walmart or where ever and buy a bottle. It was fairly inexpensive an I only take one a day. Keep me posted , my RD had never heard of it but she said to continue on if it was working.

Glad it worked for you .  I take 2-4 1000 mcg per day, when I remember.  It sits next to computer so I should remember!  LOL.

Anyway, I have been on folic acid (increased per RD instruction)   still had problems.  The biotin seems to be doing the trick.  Been taking it for about a month.  Nails are somewhat stronger too.

Biotin has worked for me also.  I addition to helping with hair loss, Biotin has also made my nails much stronger and they grow longer.Anyone know what the Biotin equivalent in the UK might be???

I started taking a 5 mg biotin every day.  Within just a couple of weeks, the bad shedding stopped.  I now have normal shedding - a couple of hairs only!

Honest to goodness, it worked for me!!!

OK, I'm showing my ignorance...what is biotin?

Nora,

I feel the same about my hair.  I have long, thick, wavy hair and I didn't want to lose it either.  When I told my RD that I wasn't sure I wanted to start MTX because I didn't want to lose my hair, he said, "You wont' lose it all."  They just don't get it, do they?

Yep, you can buy Biotin at WalMart.  It's pretty cheap too.  I bought mine on-line from Swanson Vitamins.  They were having a sale and I got 2 bottles (100 pills each) of 5mg capsules really cheap.  I think it was only for both bottles.

Has anyone had any help with hair loss by using Nioxin Shampoo and treatment products?  Suppossedly, it's a good treatment for scalp and an aid to producing healthy and stronger hair.  Haven't started using it yet.  It seems like anything we can do to promote stronger hair would be helpful!

Hey, thanks for this advice. I'm picking up some today as my already thin
hair is going fast. Sharo...I tried Nioxin treatment for almost 2 years and it
did nothing for me. It is expensive but I have heard others have said it
worked ok for them.

Nioxin is a "hair thickening" product.  You use the shampoo to get your hair and scalp squeeky clean, then put on the second part of the treatment, and it makes your hair feel thicker.  Pantene has a similar product.

I wasted a lot of money on Nioxin before I read the label.

My dermatologist says Biotin is the best thing .

Good Luck!

Wow I am so surprised that everyone who uses Biotin has great results. I just can't say enough about it

My hairdresser suggested the biotin.  Isn't it funny that a specialist doctor for RA would not know what biotin is--a basic B vitiamin?   They just don't like to admit that sometimes over-the-counter stuff works well.  Sometimes their attitudes drive me nuts.  Hair loss is important to both women and men--if they say otherwise--they are lying.  Pantene and Paul Mitchell both make a great hair thickener.  I am sure most lines make one.  The thickeners work well.

My hair is thinning on the top and ive tried all the hair thickening shampoos, mousses and gels and nothing has worked. I need something to actually grow my hair back thicker on top. Doe the biotin help with that????

Thank you! Thank you!! I picked some up at WalMart today and I'm excited to try it out.

I bought some biotin today.  I'm losing hair although I haven't noticed it thinning yet.  Hoepfully this will stop it before it goes that far.

Thanks so much you have made my holiday a happy one. I just started taking Arava and i have been worried about loosing my hair. Surely i can think of something else to woory about. Thanks for some piece of mind.[QUOTE=Linncn]

mo3, I'm just guessing, but maybe if biotin will stop hair from falling out, new hair growth will occur.  Worth a try don't you think?
