Sugar Connection | Arthritis Information

I have to share this. I limped into the ortho surgeon's office in September. X-Rays showed serious degeneration in my left knee and I was given a cortisone shot and told that if it did not respond to this, I would need a full kn ee replacement. It tidn't so I I I tried what has worked in the  past and went on Atkins. Within 12 hours, the pain was gone and it still is. This is not weight loss, it is too fast for that. It is some sort of chemical change in my body.  My ortho is as curious as I am about this, but I have found four other people who had the same response. Then I saw "The Sugar Connection" post online and felt I had to share this. Before you consider surgeryl particularly if you are younger, try going  without sugar and refined carbs. Yes, I will need surgery at some point, but not yet,. Have you had a similar reaction? Please let me know.

Excuse the very bad post. I  am on a Mac and having a lot of trouble correcting typing errors.
Hi Marie, welcome to the forum.  I have OA in both knees complicated by RA/PA.  I've been on a low carb diet for quite awhile. It's the one thing I can count on to relieve the inflammation and some of the pain.  I had a total knee replacement 6 months ago due to spurs and loose foreign bodies floating in my knee causing pain. A low carb diet wasn't going to help that.  I chose to have a total knee because of my age (62) and I wanted to golf and hike again.  My right knee is also bone on bone but without the spurs and floaters, so I don't anticipate surgery for a couple of more years.  I agree totally that a low carb diet lessens inflammation thus less pain.  Lindy
