Methotrexate | Arthritis Information

Do any of you take methotrexzte when you have a cold?

I just have a garden variety cold, no fever or chills, just sniffles.

I'd appreciate your opinion.

Thanks.

My RD rarely has me stop my MTX. Even when I had surgery I still took it.
Since it stays in your system for so long-skipping a dose doesn't really
make a difference in the long run. Now for major infections-yes. I had a
staph infection last spring and I was off it for a month.

But--that is just one dr.'s opinion.

When in doubt-give your dr. a call.

In the almost 16 years I've been taking mtx, I've never stopped for a cold.  But if you're concerned, it might be a good idea to call your doctor to see what he/she says.

Hope you feel better soon,

Kelly

Thank you both.  I've called my RD but have gotten no reply yet.  I think I will take the methotrexate.

I hate to interrupt it for a cold.  Thanks again.  I am so glad I have this board to come to with my questions!

Lemme tell you my experience. One time I had a cold while on MTX. And I was almost over it when it was time for my next dose.

After I took it, the next day, I was practically back where I started with the cold. It took me another week to get over it. Boo!

If I were to go back in time, I would delay it a few days.
Sometimes, I've put off taking MTX for a day or two if I had a cold, but I never completely skipped a dose.  Then, I'd just adjust the day I take my MTX to the new day.

dordale :)
My RD said to never stop the MTX unless I have a serious infection of some sort.  So if I ever catch another cold, I won't stop the MTX.  Jesse8839445.5260069444
