Petechiae aka "the dots" | Arthritis Information

 

Hi everyone and happy holidays to you all.

I am having a very difficult time believing that the scattered petechiae I now have on my chest, neck, face, arms, etc., are being caused by the low (3.5mg) daily prednisone that I take, although my PCP says thats probably the case since my platelet count is normal.

By scattered, I mean a few here and there in the places I mentioned with the most coming out now on my face. Just tiny, pinpoint ones.

Can't find any clinical info on amount of pred needed to induce petechia.

They did begin to appear shortly after I started the pred and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this as a pred side effect.

Hi Katalina, just did a Google search on Petechiae & Prednisone, and is is listed as a side effect.  Iidn't take it any further though

has your doctor ruled out vasculitisI had this same reaction with penicillin! It most likely is a sign that you are allergic to Pred. I hope you're able to find a different medication that helps you with the inflammation and pain. Check with the APers as well - I think they have some tricks up their sleeves for battling inflammation.
