My boyfriend has arthritis in his hands, and we're looking for something to bring some some relief. He says he often finds himself sitting on his hands because it makes them feel better. I'm trying to find something to buy, or even make, that would put that pressure on, maybe with some heat added. Has anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas. He's tried those new heating gloves but they don't have the pressure and they're expensive...
Thanks!
Hello bgrayduck, glad to have you join us. There are others on here to get information for loved ones. I found when my hands are bad I use my wrist/hand splints and either heat or cold. sometimes I find the cold works better than heat. The enbrel I find works well on the larger joints but my hands still give me trouble. All the best for your boyfriend. He is lucky to have you to care for him. They sell some elastic type hand supports at Walgreens I think. It would add pressure and some warmth. You couls always add the small "hot pockets". They should be in the sporting goods area of a store like WalMart.
Good luck!
bgrayduck,
Thats a tough one! I do the same thing when my hands are hurting too. Sometimes I stick my hands under my husbands back when he is sleeping!! I get alot of pressure from that also. It would be nice if they made something that would apply pressure for you---but I am not too sure there is anything out there like that.
but I would definitely buy it if there is!!
bgrayduck - a medical supply store in your city could get the right glove and size for your BF. I wish you luck. I recently completely four weeks of occupational therapy, who only did hand therapy. It took quite awhile for my Doctor to find this jewel. She first taught me some "glides", or warmups, then exercises, silly putty (seriously), and weight training.
So, these "glides" are fantastic and I do them all the time during the day to keep my hands warmed up and supple. Perhaps you could do some researching online and find them.
Take care ~~ Cathy
JoanieI bought these flesh colored glove like things that have the fingers cut off at the knuckle. They also have a an ace bandage type thing with velcro for extra support of the wrist.
