Hey guys,

I am looking for advice on a trip.  We are planning to go to Disney World in December.

I haven't been in years - when we went before, the RA was not nearly as bad as it is now and the OA in one of my knees is really bad....

I'm looking for resort, park, airport, etc advice. - Anything would be helpful

Last summer I flew with my kids to Pennsylvania for vacation, and stayed with a friend while there.  I just had to move slowly, keep shifting in my seat, and do what worked for me.  What I couldn't do, the kids did for me.  Next week the kids and I are driving to Wisconsin Dells (about a 5 hour drive from home), and THAT I'm NOT looking forward to, as I have a hard time simply driving a mile these days.

We did Disney in January.  There were some days that weren't pretty, but overall it went ok.  I did make sure to bring Darvocet with me into the parks each day in case I needed them.  Just make your life easier where you can.  Spend a couple of bucks to have someone else carry your bags or park your car, etc.  It is a lot of walking, but there isn't a rush.  Make a plan of what you really want to see and take it easy.  Have a great time.

The park has amigos you can rent, and they will help you with getting from the parking lot to the park is you need it.  Just let them know ahead.  We were able to park close to the park with the handicap sticker but there is still a bit of a walk if you are having problems and don't think you can walk to the counters contact guest services at their website, they are usually very helpful.  We stayed at the Fairfield Inn just one exit from the parks.  they are a gated community, continental breakfast in the morning, which was nice and there is a Golden coral restaurant right next door.  My hysband loved the food, shrimp and steak everynight on the buffet.  In the same area is a Springhills suite , if you need more room.  Now disney has a deal going on right now starting at 00 for a family of 4 where you stay for a week at one of their hotels, tickets for their parks for 6 or 7 days.  Whcih is pretty good due to the fact the park tickets are over a day now.  You park your car at the hotel and don't have to drive they will provide transportation to the parks, the only thing is they don't have continetal breakfast at their hotels and you do pay  more than what you normally pay for food, snacks etc.  If you prefer they are starting a program too, in May I believe where they will pick you up at the airport, in Orlando.  Now I got the Fairfield Inn for about a night on Travelocity, if you go to that site just fill out the time you are going and where and they will pop up several pages of hotels you can stay at.  You pay up front for your hotel so make sure to read the fine print in case you have to cancel.  My favorite park was Animal Kingdom, it was so BEUATIFUL!!!!!     Disney Parks are handicap friendly just watch out some of the people on the amigos don't watch where they are going and have run into other people! I hope this helps if you have any questions please feel free to pm me.  Meme

Ps you can take a bag in with you,  I use to pack everything up in my daughter's stroller but she is too big for that now.  what i did was pack a bag, on wheels with extra clothes, snacks, and a freezer bag, you know the kind you can buy at the store for about 3 bucks to put your frozen food in,with drinks.  It helps cut the cost.  there is a Walmart about 10 miles from the park we got our snacks there.  All bags and your purse will be inspected when you go into the park for saftey reasons, but they will not stop you from bringing in your own snacks.  Two places to have a real nice dinner is Crystal Palace and Liberty hall.  Crystal Palace is a buffet, excellent food , pricey, but it is worth it.  Winnie the pooh and friends visit with each table.  Liberty Hall is sit down dinner all you can eat with Mickey mouse and friends.  Lots of chances for autographs and pictures at each place.
