OT-dh broken leg and stuff update | Arthritis Information

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a safe, fun New Years celebration! We have started off the year with high hopes in our family. Last year at this time things were pretty bleak for me as far as my health was concerned, and my marriage...and our finances..and..well..just lots of things. So even though we ended on somewhat of a sour note with my husbands broken leg we otherwise were going along fairly well. It has been our resolve to make this a stellar year. We have one child excelling in school as an honor roll student who was at risk of being held back last year, another one who couldnt stick with anything who is litterally kicking butt at Karate this year, and my husband and I are getting along much better. I am working full time (as long as the Humira keeps working for me) and taking Karate classes too. So even though money is an even more rare commondity at my house right now and that is making things very difficult financially right now for us, we are otherwise happy and hopeful and determined to not let this hold us back too much.

As for the infamous leg...he got the staples out on friday and is crutching around the house more than he is supposed to be. He is making dinner most nights and is already going stir crazy in the house. He starts PT next week and has 4-6 more weeks of being non-weight bearing. From there he will be partial weight bearing with crutches and then a cane for another 4-6 weeks. I am just waiting for the short term disability to kick in. It is one of the things you dont think too much about untill you need it. Now we know that the coverage that his company offers sucks. But at the same time, it is better than nothing..which is what we are  getting right now.

Crunchy, I'm so glad that things are looking up for you, emotionally anyway. Your poor hubby must have totaled his leg! Wow, that is a lot of healing time!

I forget what state you are in, but do you have state disability where you are? If so, maybe they would kick in some if his job disability isn't paying much. I know, in California, you wait something like 1-2 weeks, then you start collecting up to 75% (I think. It's been a long time

I'm so glad the Humira is working for you

Hugs, Nini

Nini... I dont know about the state disability...but I know exactly who will and I will contact her tomorrow..thanks for mentioning it. We are really struggling right now...yes..he did "total" his leg..I will see if I can find info on the type of fx he had..but it is a tibial plateau fracture and he had a bone graft, plates and pins put in..

Good luck and don't overdo.

OH yeah...we are working on a case, I mean they were at fault and they arent being very helpful on their own. I am glad we spoke with an attorney early on.  It is a big pain in the butt, but ya know everything happens for a reason so I just hope it is for the best in the end..I just try to stay positive because being depressed about these kind of things doesnt help anything.
