Question about honey? | Arthritis Information

I can not remember a diet of some sort and talk about honey. Is honey a good thing and whats it good for? A cough because i have a cough. I am a strange one i have a tad of ocd and am afraid of foods and electical appliances some times. I still eat and use electrical applinances just go about it all with crazy unnecessary stress. So pardon me if i ask scince there is infant botialism if honey is good for you if your imune system is lowered by RA meds. Because i tend to think all foods have botalism in them or at least some sort of food poisoning from neglect from people handleing them before they get to me., it is a strange thing about me? Sorry.

Puh-lease!  I've worked in too many restaurants.  I'm afraid of what happens to food before it gets to me!  LOL

Not sure about infant botulism.  I do know you're not supposed to give honey to babies under a year old.  I don't remember the reason why - only the baby books all said 'no' so I didn't do it.

As adults with RA - honey is supposed to have antibacterial properties.  GoGo posted a link that I think was titled "amazing antibacterial property" about it.

Hugs,

Pip

Well idid not say my fear of foods did not make some sense to me. But sime times i am afraid of canned foods as a whole. Sometimes it is frozen foods as a whole. Sometimes it is just the food on my plate, thats the meal that will do me in. I still will eat. I just may have to make it twice. And oh ask my son. I am beaver the fire inspecter. I stress ex most about anything that could potentially cause a fire and i am meticulas and obsecced. I never leave the house once always have to go back in and check it out, i get down the road i have to go back variable as to how many times. Bed time same thing full house inspection. And if something is wrong i flip out.

Milly, my grandma D.D. used to give me honey with lemon and a little whiskey for my cough and boy, did it work good. I don't know the precise measurements but I remember how well it worked. Tasted awful, though.

I don't know about any honey diets, but I have heard of the grapefruit diet. However, LEV posted some great info a while back about gf juice and drug interactions. I know honey is good for coughs and a lot of the lozenges have it in them now and there are also ones with honey and lemon (sans the whiskey.

Are you looking for a diet to try or just asking in general?

Milly,

If your cough is due to Arava, honey ain't gonna help you... you may need to stop the drug.  I've posted about my problems with Arava earlier, and those problems started with a dry cough.  BTW, honey is the only food that I know of that never spoils.

Milly -

For five minutes, cook the juice of one lemon, 1 cup of honey, and 1/2 cup of olive oil.  Then stir vigorously for a couple minutes.

Take 1 teaspoon every two hours.

OR:

Peel and finely chop six medium onions.  Put them and 1/2 cup of honey into the top of a double boiler or in a pan over a pot of boiling water.  Cover the mixture and let it simmer for two hours.  Strain this concoction called "honion syrup" and pour it into a jar with a cover.

Take 1 warm tablespoon every two to three hours.
I'm sure this one can be cut down with any problems!

These are "grandma's" remedies and might help you for your cough.
