OT-PaRtY ideas wanted | Arthritis Information

My son turns 8 next week and I am trying to come up with a fun, cheap, creative party idea. He likes to cook and I wanted to have a chefs party for him but I dont think that is going to really be in the budget and we have such and unpredictable guest list that I really cant afford to do it this year. He does have a chocolate fountain that he cant wait to use so I was thinking of getting fruit, pretzels, marshmallows, little squares of pound cake and the like for dipping. I also found an easy way to make homemade cocoa mix and I am going to have the guests make their own, put it in a baggie and them put it in a coffee mug with some mini mallows and peppermint sticks to take home as a favour.

I am trying to figure out what kind of food to serve and other ideas too. My second choice after having some sort of food that the kids could assmble was to have finger sandwiches and little smokies..but my husband is complaining about that. He wants to cook a meal. I tried to protest but that is what he wants to do.

So I am trying to thing of food ideas, games...etc.

Does anyone have any ideas? There will be 2-3 other boys his age, and 2-3 girls ages 6-8, and 2-3 girls around age 11.  So approx 8-10 kids, mostly girls, ages 6-11...and then lots of adults who will mostly just eat and hand out. I may have a stray baby or teenager attending too.

sorry for the typos..I am tired..lol

pizza is always a fun thing for kids to cook for supper.  We live in the boonie's closet large grocery is 30 minutes away no pizza delivery.  You can go by a sam's or a pizza place and buy their dough in a ball.  Then have cheese and pepperoni etc. and jar pizza sauce.  Let the kids assemble the pizzas and watch them cook.  My girls love doing this we also make calzones the same way we just roll out the dough thinner and fold it over the filling.  Don't have any party game ideas we live on a farm so we just kick them outside and let them play.

nora

Crunchy..during the night fill his room with helium balloons.  I had a friend that used to do that for her kids birthdays. What a fun thing it'll be for your son to wake up to.

get all the ingrediants together and let them make their own tacos! you can include as little or as much as you want to within your budget . and everyone LOVES tacos..

you could make it a mexican theme with a pinata .

or if you go with the chocolate dip you could do that with different stations  and make a meal out of it .. cheeze fondue at one ,meat fondue at another ( an adult would need to supervise this because of the hot oil) and then the desert ..chocolate fondue for last.

adults would like this too because you can splurge a little with steak and nice chicken or sausage for the meat ...even shrimp ! the kids will fill up on the bread and chocolate :-)

good luck

How bout an ice cream sunday party. Let them make their own sunday. Have bananas, choc sauce, strawberries, pineapple, peanuts, etc.

I just finished cleaning up from a party and we had "wraps". Very easy to make and fun for the kids.  We bought red and green wraps (are actually a type of tortilla) spread whipped cream cheese on them and then a layer of turkey, cheese and marinated asparagus spears and roasted peppers.  We had ham ones too.  Little kids might not like the asparagus, but anything would do.  We rolled them up and sliced them.  Easy to do and very tasty.

Do you have a lot of room at your house or is the weather party friendly right now? If so, kids that age love to go on scavenger hunts. Draw maps with little clues and send them off in teams. Have the teams get different maps to separate areas so they don;t bunch up and grouse. It could be a treasure hunt, or candies. Every store seems to have Christmas candy at least half price. Another idea is to let the kids make their own pizza. Just whip up some bread dough or buy some and give each child a small ball of it to flatten and put toppings on.

One of our favorite things to do is I make 2 huge seven layer bean dips, one hot, one cold. Then I make a big pot of spanish rice, and have things out like corn and flour tortillas, taco shells, tostada shells, green salad, chips, etc. and let them do what they want. Some like to make a taco salad and others make burritos, or whatever....

hmmm...all good ideas...I love the baloons in the room idea and may do that for him. The mini pizzas is a nice idea, but so is the mexican food. I may use that idea since I read somewhere that spicey foods compliment the sweet chocolate. Thanks guys..any other ideas are still welcome since I wont be going shopping untill the end of next week for party supplies.

We fill the living room with 10 times the birthday age with balloons.. its amazing to watch a 3 year old react to THIRTY balloons.. wheeeeeee

don't forget to use lots of streamer.  They are under , you get tons of feet and you can twist two favorite colors together and go from corner to corner in the room.  It helps fill the room at a cheap cost.

You can also put balloons in the corners in sets of 3 taped to the wall.

If you want to save money and don't want brand name tablewear, you can buy solid color partyware of the colors your kid likes.

Also, decorate the room with any toys that fit their favorite theme and you can also have kids (better for younger kids) who like to do crafts, color pictures of their favorite characters for the wall.

You can also find party printables of characters etc. for parties at places like familyshoppingbag.com, familyfun.com, dltk-kids.com and free party ideas at mypartysupplystore.com

Make sloppy joes for the adults.  Fills you and and inexpensive.  (well if you get hamburg on sale).

I love the ice cream sunde idea.  If you want to make it cheaper just do a scoop of ice cream have the kids but a slice of banana on it and maybe some chocolate chips.  Shouldn't be a big mess with that.

Make your own pinata (sp).  I did.  couldn't believe how easy it was.  Then just bought some candy and those little party favors at the dollar store.  It was a big hit.

I did a "Survivor" party for my daughter.  You just divide the kids into two teams and they compete in games.  They have to win their food!

The taco bar is really good and you can get thekids to help prep the cheese and everything so they feel like they did it.  another idea is doing chili for the kids it is so easy and so cheap.  You can get some bisquick and make biscuits too.  There is a recipe on the box for the garlic cheese biscuits like red lobster.  They go great with the chili.  Or do the chilie with grilled cheese sandwiches the biys will feel like kings.  meme

I had read on a website about an idea for a candyland party and thought he would think it too babyish. By coincidence my niece came over with the game CandyLand and he loved it. He wants the game..so I was thinking of using that...but he also keeps saying he wants a chocolate themed party. I dont know what kind of games to do for a "chocolate party".

I was thinking maybe of drawing a cupcake on a big posterboard and getting red dot stickers and doing "pin the cherry on the cupcake" like pin the tail on the donkey. We also did a game that we could do again where you hang donuts from string and they each stand under a donut and race to eat it (no hands). That is funny and would be a good one again..with choc. covered donuts of course. And then maybe instead of "hot potato" they could do "hot chocolate" I can fill a plastic mug with brown felt and they can pass it around the circle to music.  Prizes would be, what else...baggies of chocolates...

The guests parents are going to love us..lol.

Any other ideas for adaptable games for the chocolate theme? I was thinking of trying to get brown and blue plates/napkins/baloons.

Brownblue?    OrLimeGreenandBrown?Brown/bluePotato parties are fun. Baked potatoes with all kinds of toppings such as
chili, cheese, sour cream, cheeses, lil smokes, etc...the list is endless. Not
real expensive either. Making mini pizzas would also be fun for the kids
and I think you can buy those little premade small crusts. What ever you do,
you will have so much fun. I love birthday parties.
