One of my chihuahua's is losing her hair. It is evenly patterned in the way it is falling out, around her neck on the sides and front, and on her head...except one dime sized spot on her hip. She is an inside dog as is our other chihuahua. The other dog has no hair loss. They eat the same foods, and pretty much live the same lives. She doesnt chew or scratch a lot...and the skin itself looks normal. She doesnt act any different. The hair loss has been gradual, maybe over the past 3-4 weeks. It started a few weeks before that actually, but we thought it was the collar she had on since it was just on her neck at that time. It wasnt until my husband came home from the hospital that we really noticed it, I guess cuz I hadnt really looked at her for several days.

Right now I just cant afford a 50 dollar vet visit..I am going to try to get her to a vet  in the next 2 weeks though.

I was just wondering if anyone had experience with this. I tried to find info online, but nothing really fit.

Crunchy it could be diet granted the other dog is fine but this one may need to have a diet with no flour in.  My brother has a Newfoundland and she has to be on a strict diet of NO FLOUR or her fur falls out.  This could be the problem.  meme A greyhound with bald thigh syndrome, a form of pattern baldness seen in this breed

In some breeds hair follicles in certain parts of the body become progressively miniaturized, analogous to what occurs in male pattern baldness in humans. It is most commonly seen in Dachshunds, Miniature Pinschers, and Chihuahuas.[2] Affected areas become progressively more alopecic. The pattern of hairlessness that results is somewhat breed-dependent and sex dependent. In short-coated toy and miniature dogs, ventral neck, ventral chest, ventral abdomen and inner thighs are affected. In males, the pinnae (ear flaps) are affected. In Greyhounds, the thighs are affected as well as the ventral chest and abdomen.

Our dog princess has that problem as well as a horrible problem with scratching spots raw.

We changed her food to natural dog food and she has been fine ever since.

I would suggest taking your puppy to the doctor to make sure it isn't cancer or any other serious thing.  Then i would make sure they are eating organic or natural dog food.

Thanks for the info yall....it is all really good. I can manage switching her food..she is so little that she doesnt eat a large volume of food..except she is like a little hoover. We are going to have to be extra careful about crumbs etc...I have thrown away so many crayons because of her! My kids finally got the message and stopped leaving them on the floor in their rooms...but that was a while back. I hope it is something simple like diet. Any suggestions of dog foods I can try? It has to be tiny whatever it is....

MY brother has his dog on is one he gets form the pet store I think it has Science Diet as it's name it has no gluten, flour products in it.  Look for one with no flour or gluten.  Ask the store ownr too they can suggest a couple different ones.  Now if you are giving her can check your labels too make sure there is no wheat or glutem they do put it in the can food too.  meme

Oh, and our dog Lady used to eat crayons.  You can always tell by the rainbow they poo.  And don't worry, today's are non-toxic, we asked the doctor and he said it should be ok, just try and hide them from her in the future.
