New and extremely fatigued | Arthritis Information

Hi all. My name is Jessica and I am a stay at home mom of two year old twin boys and was diagnosed with RA right after the birth of my twins. After I started taking Humira things were manageable for a while but within the last month, I've been so fatigued that I have no strength or energy to do anything.

I can sleep a 12 hour night and wake up feeling just as tired and need a three hour nap an hour or two after waking up. This is really taking a toll on me and my family and I'm feeling very hopeless and useless. I don't know what to do but things can't continue this way.

Is this common with RA? if anyone has dealt with fatigue this severe, I would appreciate some insight and hopefully help with dealing with it.

Thank you all,
Jess

Hi Jessica and welcome to the website. My daughter's name is Jessica.

I hope you feel better soon.

take care

Hi Jess...welcome!  Fatigue is  very common with RA.  But if you're  having an extremely difficult time with it, you might want to talk with your doctor about it.

Hi Jessica, welcome to the board. Fatigue is a horrible part of RA. You should definetly go back and see your doctor, get your iron levels checked too. I was on Humira but sufferd terrible fatigue, I am much better now I am on Enbrel. Having 2 year old twin boys is tiring enough without having this dreaded disease too. Do you have any family near you who could help out until you get the medication sorted out.

Keep us posted

Take care

Lisa

Hugs, and welcome to the board!

Pip

I feel your pain.  I stay home with my 3-year-old and 1 1/2 year-old, and I also work from my home.  I have to take a nap in the afternoon while they're napping, otherwise I don't think I could make it through dinner preparation, clean-up, bathtime, bedtime, etc...

One thing that is oh-so-hard to make yourself do, but truly works, is to get active when you feel yourself slowing down.  When I start to get that drained feeling, I take the kids for a walk or do something that gets me moving, and drink a tall glass of ice water -- that boosts metabolism.

Otherwise, do you have any family close by that could provide you with some time to rest on days that you especially need it?  We may move later this year to be closer to family, just because fatigue is such an issue.

Good luck, and welcome to the board!

Jess,
You could actually have a little fibromyalgia going on. Even though you are sleeping for a long period of time at night you might not actually be getting a deep sleep, which is very common in fibro. Talk to your doctor about it---they can give you something that will put you into the deep sleep you need and that might help cut down on your napping. The same thing happen to me after I had my first son and I was diagnosed with fibro at that time. Just a little something to go along with the arthritis!!!! like we need that.

Good Luck to you.

Hello Jessica and welcome.  Fatigue seems common.  And at times horrible to deal with.

I hope your doctor can help you.  Sounds like you really need it to get through twins.  Especially that age.
