Lots of Spots-vasculitis question | Arthritis Information

Whenever I go below 20 mg of prednisone I get lots of tiny red-brown spots on my legs. They are not terribly distinct, but when my legs clear up I am amazed to see they are white, not red-brown. Unfortunately it has taken me a whole year to realize and confirm that is what is going on. Anyone know if that means the vasculitis is not controlled? It seems like I would be sicker than I am if it is that uncontrolled.

Laker

Sorry Laker, I don't have an answer to your question, but I just wanted to suggest you speak to your doctor and get to the bottom of it.  Of all my tests the one the RD was most concerned about was the one indicating vasculitis.  He said it could be very serious, so please make sure yours is under control. I think it's a good sign that you don't feel sick, but I'd get it checked out just to be sure.

Thanks, I have an appt next month. I have developed a slight foot drop since my last appt so I suppose that is from the vasulitic neuropathy. I can still walk but not normally and often trip. Nearly took a header at work today and I was very embarrassed. I tripped on the floor! Maybe it is time to try a different treatment. I know they are planning to do a emg/NCV at the appt.

Thanks for the resopnse. I hope you are doing well.

Laker

Hi Laker,

Yep, I think the foot drop is from the vasculitic neuropathy too based on my own experience and what I've been told.  Again, you and I have similar problems.  Wanna race to

LOL! I hope it's a tie and happens soon! I am amazed at how much we have in common. I'm sorry for your sake, but it is nice to know I'm not alone.

Laker

p.s. I have ringing in my ear too but never told my dr. Maybe I should do that.

I don't know what it means either. If I get prednisone below ten, the rash on my leg springs back to life and starts ittttcccchhhhiiinnnnggg me like crazy. SO I can relate what you're going through but cant tell you the reason it's happening!

Wendy,

Does it look kind of like a sunburn? I used to get that before I started the meds and it itched like mad. None of the usual "itch" remedies help either. You should show it to your dr if you haven't yet.

Laker

Yes, Laker, tell your doctor about the ringing but I can probably save you the trouble of a trip to the neuro and ENT doc by telling you it's related to your AI.  All three doctors agree so it seems it's just a matter of getting the disease under control.

OK, I'll race you to see who gets to the "finish" line first.  It should be very amusing, what with us both tripping over our own lazy foot!  If you win, tell me all you learned and I'll do the same.  That way we can both be winners!!  A tie would be even better, for sure.
