OT, kind of-ER last night | Arthritis Information

I got scared by then and started yelling for my husband, who was sound asleep. It took a while to wake him, and scared him to death. Of course he walked into the b-room and saw all this blood. (I even have to throw out my rug). We tried everything to try to stop it to no avail, so I finally told him to call 911. The paramedics took me to the hospital, I got ONE stitch, which stopped the bleeding. I really felt dumb then. But the doc said that ruptured veins can be pretty dramatic

Have any of you ever heard of this happening? I really hadn't. Duh...

Anyway, I'm fine now, with my one silly stitch

I'm also really tired as we got home from the hospital at 3:00 am. Wo I'm off to bed. Have a good night everyone!

Gosh, how scary.  I guess I never thought varicose veins would do that.  Just thought of the cosmetic or painful end of things.

Glad you are okay.  Take care

Karen

Nini- That must have been so frightning for you . This has happened to my sister twice before, she has now had her veins removed. I can just imagine hubby waking to find everything covered in blood.

I hope you feel better when you wake up. Take care

Lisa

Blood shooting in an arc across the room??  Anyone would have gone to the hospital for that.  Don't feel silly, that sounds really scary.  Glad it wasn't anything major.

Just because it only took one stitch to stop the bleeding does not mean you didn't need help big time. The paramedics would not have taken you to the hospital if it was not necessary, they would have treated the problem themselves.

Don't feel bad. Be glad your big bleed had a quick solution.

When fiance' adn I were working on the roof, he had been using the nail guna dn I was just about to say that  the nailgun was against his leg , when boom, the nail gun went off and shot him in the leg. IT was terrible! THe blood shot shot out in a huge arc.

I climbed down the ladder and all to ge tot the phone to call 911, told him to remain there, but nooooooooo he had to climb down, blood was everywhere. Of course the ambulance got lost on the way out and we had blood everywhere, it was so shocking and he was so weak....I thought for sure he would bleed to death.

THey finally got the nail out after a long time of digging.

He went to work the next night, pain and all.

What a horrible experience you had....I hope you are feeling better.

Nini,

That sure would have terrified me as well.  Especially when it "spurted in an arc across the bathroom!"

Nini, I would have screamed and done the exact same thing.  You needed the stitch and that is why it stopped.  I would not for a moment feel silly!  Wow Nini, was it a vein or artery? You did the right thing though. I know
when patients decide to pull out their own IV's, it can be very messy. Nini,
Marian is right about the paramedics, I don't think you need to feel dumb. Look at it this way, you must have really good circulation in your feet. Hope you heal fast, I would have been freaked out, blood does a number on me.

Thanks, everybody. You all made me feel less silly

Oh, by the way, I had the veins in my legs stripped (taken out) 30 years ago. But after that long, other veins get weak and you get more varicose veins.

I appreciate the concern. You are all great!

Nini - wow, double wow.  I have never heard of anything like that, and of course you had to call 911 and get emergency treatment and go to the hospital.  My husband has a standing order of blood, vomiting, or high fever, take me to ER.  Otherwise, I just deal with it.  I am just glad it was easy to fix, but you have got to be wondering why this happened.  Good luck.  Cathy Man..............you shoulda took pictures...........

I'm gross, ain't I?

Katie, It really would have been something to see

Really, though, I was not exactly looking my best.

JSNM, I asked the doc about what caused it. This one was very close to the skin, it looked kind of like a little blood blister, but dry-looking. She said they are not too uncommon. My skin is very thin and it was a very weak spot, so it just blew (her word

Thanks, again, my friends.

LOL Katie

OMG!! I totally would have freaked out and then passed out if this would have happened to me. I'm so glad you're ok and it wasn't anything life threatening. Still scary as hell, nonetheless.

Katie, you nasty girl!! (I'd want to see, too, though. Guess I'm nasty right along with ya!!

take care

The strange thing about it was that it didn't hurt. They asked me what number the pain was, just in my foot. I said it didn't hurt. He didn't appear to believe me, and asked a few more times, even after I told him #1! My back hurt, after lying on a cold, marble bathroom floor with one foot in the air

All I can say is God bless the paramedics!!!!

Hope that no more break on you.

Marisa

Great, now there's a possible image of you laying on the bathroom floor with blood shooting out of your foot. Again I ask you, where was the camera???

I really am glad you're alright though. I'm still amazed that it didn't hurt! How......weird? And lucky!!!

I work in the ER, we see this all the time... well not all the time but 1 every coupls months. Everyone reacts the same way wether male or female. If it ever happens again just put some pressure on it... that means dont lift the bandage and look at it !! Thre's a lot of pressure in that vein but its not and artery, you won't bleed to death. Still very, very scary when you see ALL that blood!!!
