Its an interesting article on the history and controversy of fibro, as well as ithe impact of lyrica for its treatment on the pharmaceutical compnaies. Pip especially will appreciate the last line of the article
buckeye, thanks for posting. I was just saying to my husband a few weeks ago (while watching that Lyrica ad that I hate, although I love the product) that now that one company has managed to get approval for a fibro med, that the rest of them will jump on the bandwagon to make money. Despite the cynicism, I am hoping this will lead to more research on fibro...sadly, where there's money to be made, the research moves forward.
Also, just wanted to add that I'm ok with fibro not being "real", as long as they figure out what is going on, even if it is just a biological intolerance for pain, because something is definitely going on with me and millions of others.
Yep, you're right! The last line killed me. I actually found the whole article disturbing. Back to Gloria Steinem and the "If Med Could Menstrate" scenario. So...it's middle aged women who have no coping mechanisms. Possibly we all need "mother's little helper" to keep us going. Sheesh!
And I liked this part too! “These people live under a cloud,” he said. “And the more they seem to be around the medical establishment, the sicker they get.” I say that all the time!
LOL
