OT: Stolen KIDS Identity -- UPDATE | Arthritis Information

So we went and filed our income taxes Friday. We usually hear back by Saturday to come in and pick up our loan check. Well... this morning they called to inform us that our check loan had been rejected.

It seems that someone else "claimed" our daughter on their tax return. So... now we have a BIG mess.

They submitted our return one more time just to make sure that a mistake was not made. And if the same thing comes back tomorrow as daughter being "claimed" as a dependant by someone else; we will just file with son and then do an amendment so we can claim daughter, which will have to be mailed in and proof that she is our daughter and has lived with us the whole year.

We do not know how they got daughter's SS#. The only places that have her SS# is doctors, dentist, school, county, and pharmacy. Might be a couple of other places, but no where that it should be able to be accessed.

So... now we wait. I am going to send in a form to check daughters credit score. Because if it was not a mistake made then who ever "claimed" her might be ruining her credit with credit cards and stuff like that.

joonie39462.3990509259Sorry to hear, but this happens all the time. We've had our personnel information let loose on the internet twice, both by entities that should have kept it secure. It's so reassuring to get letters that say oops, your ss number was accidentally posted to the www and we don't intend to do anything about it, but you can spend endless hours trying to see if your identity has been stolen. At least you found out about it. If in fact it has been stolen, school districts are notorious for not guarding personal information.

Joonie, if you can find out who let her SSN loose, you can get them to pay for monitoring her SSN for at least a year. Just to make sure no one(or the same person) tries it again.

How sh*tty that some loser took a CHILD'S identity! SCUM!!!!

Well... got the call about an hour ago... that our son had been "claimed" by someone else as well.

So now we are going to file without both kids, have to as we owe who done our taxes money and we cannot just say "no we will wait."

Now out of deductive means, I have narrowed it down to pharmacy, hospital, doctors office, and anything I signed up for thru the county and state. Oh and insurance companies.

Because the school & dentist office does not have son's SS#, only daughters.

This totally SUCKS! Now we are going to have to prove both kids are ours and lived with us the whole year. No telling how long it will be before IRS gives us the money we are entitled to. You know they are never in no BIG hurry.

And not to mention, if we will ever find out who "claimed" ours kids.

It just sucks.

Contact your Congressman ASAP and get a case worker working on this. Call today.

Yikes, sorry to hear that!

We got a notice from the IRS telling us that they audited our 2006 taxes and removed our 4 "deductions" called our kids.  They sent a bill for 00!  We had to gather up a HUGE pile of documents to send to them. I am talking about 5 pounds!  We even copied our son's graduation announcement and had to have the school write a letter that my daughter attended 9th grade, even though she is in private school and we PAY her tuition each month.

It has been a month since they received it.  Joonie, make sure you send it certified mail with signature required.  We are still waiting for a reply from them.  I did ask a representative that I talked to if I could send them a picture of our 15 year old "deduction" eating our food and sleeping in our house.  He said that would not be necessar.

Holy Cow!  What a huge mess.  Man, what is this world comming to?  I wish that the IRS would move quickly, because you will want to know if their whole identity is stolen!

Yep, I would bring birthcertificates and bills etc.  showing that you paid their way.

Mary I love the idea of a picture to show where they slept and ate!!!

Thanks for the suggests!

In-laws talked to the sheriff of our county, they are friends with him, and he said since it was over 00 they stole, that we are to report it, as it is a felony.

So... some time when this cold rainy weather clears up, we are going to the police department to file a report.

The tax lady is sending in our amendment papers tomorrow, so hopefully we will hear back from them soon.
