Alrighty, so this is what I have planned for Justin's 25th:

He's going to have to work, so I'm coming up with some excuse to take him to work and have the car. I'll surprise him with 25 silver balloons weighted down with quarters from 1983, and a cake that looks like a 1983 quarter.

And then he'll get his gift. THIS IS THE BEST PART!!

It's Parcheesi(sp?) the game!!!!!!! It originated in India, and the original name was something like Pachesi(sp). It means "25"!!!! HOW COOL!!! And we looooovveee games, so I'm stoked! Jess (coworker) found a big write up about it on wikipedia.

I just had to let y'all know, cause that was too neat! A game that means 25?? Who'd have known! (I didn't.......but then again, I'm generally clueless....lol)

Katie, what a great 25th birthday for Justin.  You did a lot of thinking and planning to give Justin a special celebration and that's what it's all about.  I love Parcheesi, haven't played in years.  I may have to go out and buy a game, we play a lot of board and card games also.  You did good!  Lindy sigh ...
just to be 25 again ...
my parents were married for about 40 years before my dad died .
when they were first married they did not have a lot of money so my dad fished out a birthday card (it was a perfectly sentimental romantic one)that my mom had given him the year before and recycled it . underneath her signature from the year before he wrote a new sentiment and then put the year next to it so she would know .
well lo and behold they passed that card back and forth every birthday between them their entire married life. I think my dad had to tape an extra page into it.
my dad died about 14 years ago but I know that my mom at age 84 still has that card.
little things mean so much to people ... I think your gifts sound so sweet ... and from the heart.. happy birthday to Justin from me

Oh that's a WONDERFUL story!!! Gosh, don't ever lose that card! How beautiful!

Thanks guys, he's been pretty bummed about turning 25 lately (long story, but he has good reasons) and his last two birthdays did NOT go off as planned. So I'm really hoping to WOW him with this one!!

Katie, where will you get all the 1983 quarters? From my bank. And other people's banks. Oh, not like bank bank bank, my drawer at work. We go through quarters like candy. (soda machines, laundry machines)I guess it won't be too hard to find them, especially with everyone pitching in.  Great ideas, by the way!

You think of such cool things! Do you know how big 25 balloons are, put together? Are they going to work or will you have them at home?

How's he feeling, by the way? Still on the road to recovery or has he arrived? I didn't see anything about your trip. Hope you had a great time. Didn't you say you were going to post some pics? I bet you had a great time with your family.

Oops! I got off the subject again

Hugs, Nini

Pffttt

*Claims to be the queen of off subject-ness*

I haven't the slightest idea how big 25 balloons is. Pretty effin big, I'm guessing. It's not till March, I WILL figure out a way to do this!

He's doing very well. He just recently came off the pred, and we're thinking that may not have been such a hot idea. But we'll give it a little longer to see.

I posted about the trip!! And I linked to my myspace for pictures. I never did ACTUALLY post them on here. I was super lazy when I got back. I had a GREAT time though!

Hey Katie!

Here's some more ideas to work with Justin's party.  Did you know that 2008 is the 25 anniversary of:

Michael Jackson's "Thriller" music video

Cabbage Patch Dolls

The video game "Burgertime"

The minivan

The D.A.R.E. program

The cartoon "Inspector Gadget"

The movie "Scarface"

Live with Regis & Kelly went on the air

M*A*S*H went off the air

Fraggle Rock first aired

You could also play music from 1983, dress like they did in 1983, print photos of stars from 1983 and hang them up etc.

OMG THANK YOU KAREN!!! He LOVES Michael Jackson's Thriller, and Inspector Gadget was one of his fav cartoons! I'll use it! YAY!!!

Believe it or not, my mom and dad still have their big stereo system with not only a turntable, but a reel-to-reel and 8-track..the thing has these now huge bose speakers and everything...it was high tech back in the day..lol.

LMAO Nah, I'd have no way to play it. But that's awesome!
