Ugh...sorry folks,

Popular Osteoporosis Drugs Triple Risk Of Painful Bone Necrosis

ScienceDaily (Jan. 15, 2008) — A University of British Columbia and Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute study has found that a popular class of osteoporosis drugs nearly triples the risk of developing bone necrosis, a condition that can lead to disfigurement and incapacitating pain.

Gimp, I read this just recently. Before I had my knee replaced I quit taking bisphosphonates and haven't decided what I want to do other than to take calcium.  I quit taking them because they were causing additional pain in my legs and hips.  Two weeks after I quit taking them most of the pain disappeared. I'm going to research Reclast next week and if it looks promising I'll talk to my RD about the once a year infusion.  I think we're at risk for bone necrosis due to RA. I remember reading that in some research study.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

People who are taking bisphosphonates should be aware that they can cause additional bone, muscle pain.  Lindy
