Ribs again - gotta question | Arthritis Information

Ok so this evening... my ribs started hurting and I could feel it in my back when I would breathe it would send a pain to my back from the front. Not sure if I explained that right.

Ok like the ribs under my boobers that is where I was having pain, but when I would breathe it would send a sharp pain to my back, but it was not like it went around to the back, it was like it shot thru the middle of me to my back. Like from point A ----- point B.

The longer I stood or sat up the worse it got. It felt like someone was crushing my chest and causing me this pain.

After I laid down for a while it went away.

This is the not the first time this has done this, I have posted about it before, but no one replied to it. So, I just thought I was a nutty fruitcake or ate too much fruitcake LMAO!! (I HATE fruit cake).

Would this be Fibro? Or something else?

Sounds like how my pneumonia starts.

Sorry, it's all I thought of.

Pip

Jonnie I've had Pluerisy and it hurts like that. Hard to take a deep breath. I really don't think Fibro is causing your pain unless it's Costo.

Oh great! Now I have signs of pneumonia

Naw... not sick. Do not feel sick.

Oh and some times when this happens it feels like my ribs are rubbing against each other, and then I hear a "pop" like one of my ribs was overlapping another, and then it causes even more pain, but that pain is like a quick jolt travel to the head kinda pain.

Humm... it only does it when I sit up all day without laying down and resting my back and all.

I have a very limited amount of time I can sit up or been in the up right position, before my back, neck and shoulder area will start to cause me discomfort, stiffness and pain. I can sit up for about 3-6 hours, before having to lay down because of the pain, stiffness & discomfort. On bad days it is only takes an hour or 2 before I have to lay back down to ease the pain, stiffness, and discomfort.

Yep, sounds like pleurisy to me, too. Though it's been a long while since I've had a bout of pleurisy it's sharp stabbing pain you never forget!!!

Pleurisy actually is an infection and at times will clear up on its own after a few painful days. Then there are times like the last bout I had that required a visit to my doctor and he put me on a regimen of antibiotics for 10 days.

You could try tightly wrapping your ribcage and applying heat. Try your best not to take deep breaths, make any sudden moves, avoid lifting, etc., etc., etc., And Don't Laugh. Now I realize the last bit of advice could be difficult for you

Well.... I hope it goes away soon.

Nope, do not think I have a broken rib. They are sore if I touch them.

I do not know. I guess it is another thing to add to my new "List-O-Complaints".

take care

No it does not affect my breathing... it just causes pain in my ribs and back when I breaths, and the more I breathe the more it feels like my chest is being tightened. Like it is constricting.

hmmm, well then, if it continues, you best give the ole' doc a call. I'm fresh out of diagnoses. LOL

Aww darn *snaps fingers* I was hoping someone other than a Dr could DX me

Yeah, I have a new name for hubby, daughter actually gave it to me and said I could use it on her daddy. It is Blimp Belly. I laughed my butt off when she said Blimp Belly. It even makes hubby crack a smile when I call him that. It is just funny.

LOL WTG!! I knew you had to have a great come back for him.

My hubby's name changes depending what kind of mood he is in and what kind of mood I am in. LOL I can't elaborate because that kind of language is offensive to some people. LOL

Yeah, around here we show our love for each other by calling on another a name other than our name given at birth

Yeah, most people would say baby or sweetie or some mushy crap like that, but around us... it is nerd, dork, blimp belly, dumbass, stupidor, stupid conquistador, fat boy, dough girl, and the list goes on.

And when we are mad at each other it is mostly cuse words mixed with what we call each other on non-mad at each other days.

Hope you don't have pleurisy but it is treatable in about a week to 10 days with antibiotics.  Hope youre able to figure it out and get it taken  care of soon

what is pleurisy?

Yes, what is pleurisy?

Googled it

HI Joonie, I have had the exact same thing for about 2 years, it comes and goes, my GP and rheumy assure me it is costochondritis, it hurts to take deep breaths and sometimes just my bra hurts the area.  Hope it goes away soon, love Janie. XX

Ok I looked at both of the symptoms for each condition ya'll listed.

I have the costochondritis symptoms. I do not have the pleurisy symptoms.

Humm.... well... on the complaint list it goes. Every time I see this Ribs topic it makes me hungry.  Stop talking about ribs!!! Hey that reminds me, I have a gift card to Ruby Tuesdays.... can we say I only get to eat and have RIBS at that.

I found out that (this is what doctors said) RA is swelling my heart, lungs etc.  The lungs were inflamed and causing swelling in my body.  Prednisone so far is the only thing to get rid of it.  They tried cortersteroids in the form of advair, but my multiple chemical sensitivity made me worse and had to stop it.  They upped my pred then.

So, please go to the doctor.  My rhummy ignored it at first, so my family doctor recommend me to an allergist/immuneologist.  I have an inhaler to clear it for emergancy times that it acts up.

But, it could be this or it could be something else, so please see your doctor right away.

I forgot to mention that with RA, a very very very rare side effect can be swelling of the tissue on the ribs which can cause very sensitive pain.

I have RA, every day they have another symptom.

Listen Joonie I get that pain alot I have it right now it has been bad today it is the ribs try pressing the ribs at the sides it should hurt anyways just another joy. My dr said anywhere ther is a joint anywhere there can be ra.......teresa

Joonie,

Sounds to me like you have the dreaded rheumatoid arthritis disease. Gosh, I had my nose broken in a fist fight in 7th grade, gosh the pain in my nose when I flare, but hey, I ain't no blankin blank. Got it? Last year I was afraid of 12 year old females, this year, I'm mean like I used to be, got it?

LEV

Seriously.Seriously Joonie.

Hey LEV? My nose has been broke 2 times.

Once when I was 4, I was playing baseball with the neighbors teenagers. They talked me into being the catcher. Well... I was standing behind the batter and well... he hit the ball and then he slung the bat behind him, you know like how the pro's do it. And it hit me in the face and broke my nose and knocked me out unconscious.

2nd time was when I was when I was 14 and me and my then boyfriend were on our way to school. and it was raining and we were running late because we had to drop is sister off at school on our way. Well... we got to this sharp curve and it he lost control of the truck and we wrapped around a tree. My face it the metal dash board, this truck was from the 60's... so no seat belts and of course a metal dash board. It knocked me unconscious. I woke up and he was still knocked out and I was bleeding profusely and I was freaking. Then I noticed his eyes were open but he was not moving... I thought he was dead. I shook him and started to scream and then he came around.

That time... I broke my nose really good. It left a big dent in the metal dash board and ruined my clothes. My nose was broke so bad they wanted to operate on it to fix it, but I did not want them to. So... now I have a gap in my nose that you can feel from the outside and I have "sinus" problems.

My nose does not hurt anymore when it gets cold... So... I am guessing RA has not visited my nose yet.

The pain is very much like pluerlsy, I have had that after pneumonis.  I would get it looked at just so they can make a record of it.  If it gets worse and you start coughing...you will also need to take special care.  It can get life-threatening.

Sorry to tell you all of this, but I have just gone through this whole thing with the doctors.  I would have the RD and your GP both look at it.  I put heat on them and it does help.  Also, some biofreeze if you have that.  Take care and rest.

Ok when I lay on my left side... I can feel what feels like my heart beating, but feels very faint and and like it is rattling. If I lay on my right side nothing, if I lay on my back nothing. Only when I lay on my left side. But it does not really feel like my heart. Because it feels like it is moving or tremoring.

Not sure if that has anything to do with my rib pain I have been having but it has been doing it for the last couple of nights. It started the same night I had that rib pain again.

Joonie, do you have a BP monitor.  My BP has climbed a little since this disease has started and I have started on some of the meds, but the heart beat thing doesn't seem to be involved...unless your ribs hurt worse when your heart beats?

I would get into GP and talk to him and have him look at BP too.  If it is low...and there isn't any pain in your chest that goes down the left arm and you are not sweating...your heart is probably fine...just stressed because you are worried.  If you have any of those symptoms above...then you need to run into the hospital....like now!

If not have the GP xray your ribs!  I bet they are the big problem.

Just a guess - sounds just like RA in the old rib cage. Heat helps

So does very gentle exercise to work the stiffness out - don't sit or lay in same position more than say... 15 minutes (sometimes it is only 5 minutes before I gel back up).

Did you get off the pred or lower the dose? Hate to say it but pred fixes this right up for me.

Did you over do it some how? I never figured out how I get my rib cage fired up except for coughing. But I have had it when I have not been coughing too.

That does it.  I'm cooking ribs tonight for dinner.  I'll give 'em a couple hours of low-dose heat therapy, with lots of BBQ sauce rub-downs.

MMMMMM!!!!  Joonie, wanna come over for ribs?

No... no pain or anything like that. And my BP is always good and consistant, unless I am in the dreaded GYNO's office then it raises just a bit.

Yeah, I lowered my pred about 2-3 weeks ago. I went from 10mg -to- 5mg. It has done this even when I was on 10mg of pred.

I think it is my left lung that is making that rattling feeling.
