Infection & Enbrel | Arthritis Information

My RD didn't call me back so I'm bothering you guys.  The instructions for my Enbrel says to stop taking it if you have a serious infection.  Does an upper respiratory infection constitute as a serious infection?  I'm supposed to take my Enbrel tonight.  Does anyone know if I should skip it?I would consider that a serious infection.  But I don't know anything about enbrel.  I hope someone can answer this for you.You could call the Enbrel nurse line.I forgot about the Enbrel nurse line.  I'll do that.

I'm putting money on it counting.

Let us know!

Well she was no help at all.  All she said was that my doctor needed to make that decision.

Well, I'm back to not knowing what to do.

Sheesh. Can you skip it tonight, and call your doc in the AM? Then if he says yes, pop it then. A few hours won't kill, right?

That's exactly what I suggested to the nurse, then she gave me this speech about how it could affect how I feel.

I think everything she said was just scripted.  In a way, I can understand how they wouldn't want to get sued for giving someone bad advice.

Katie, I'm going to do just what you said.

I'd skip it for tonight, especially if you've been running a fever. I suppose you could call the doctor on call tonight and ask what to do but I'm with the others, just wait till tomorrow. Hope you feel better soon :)

I posted a question similar a few weeks ago.  I had a minor infection and couldn't reach my RD so I called the Enbrel nurse, the nurse didn't clear up anything, just read directly from the insert that you get with the meds.

My RD finally called back and said do not take an injection if you have any kind of infection and if on antibiotics wait until the antibotics are finished.  They said don't start back-up on the enbrel until infection is all clear and you feel 100% again.

Enbrel affects the immune system and you want to be sure that your immune system isn't fighting a bacteria, before getting a shot.  Hope this helps.

can you take it if you have cold symptoms, or a cough?

kel

I take enbrel and I wouldn't take it if you have any time of cold symptom or cough. I could be serious. Enbrel blocks your body's ability to fight infection and the last thing you need if for a cold/cough to turn into something serious. That's what the insert says. Wait until the same day next week and if you feel better no cold symptoms or cough or fever, then take it on that day.
I hope you guys getting feeling better. Enbrel is working pretty well for me until Aunt Flo showed up and then my ra goes crazy for a few days. UGGGH!

take care

I talked with my RD's nurse and she told me to stop the methotrexate as well as the Enbrel.

Did anyone else have to stop their methotrexate?  I'm worried if I don't take it for a couple of weeks, and then I take 15 mg all at once, that it might make me really sick.
